THE FREMONT COUNTY SUN. February 4, 1909. "Local News".-- Mr. Cornutt, the egg and poultry man fromClarinda, made his regular trip to Sidney, Tuesday, purchasing eggs and poultry from the farmers of the surrounding country. If there are any doubting Thomases who do not believe that there is any profit in the poultry business, they ought to come to town some Tuesday and see the chickens and eggs brought in to market.

N.B.: Eggs, poultry, chickens -- these were the arenas for the fellow following the huckster business in 1900 Fremont county. This seems to be saying that Tuesday was market day at this period of time for farmers. I am wondering how Cornutt got his purchases back to Clarinda before they froze?! Produce stations in the towns continued at least past World War II, didn't they?......If your ancestor were a farmer, in the SEARCH space type in "eggs"; "huckster" (separately, one at a time).--W.F.

THE FREMONT COUNTY HERALD. May 18, 1906. -- "WHY NOT HAVE A MARKET DAY?" -- Can not Sidney have a market day? Think the matter over and if a favorable consideration is reached the town in general should spare no pains in making it a success. Every merchant should make a specialty of some line of goods, farmers would have stock to sell, household goods would be auctioned off, large crowds of people would attend and trade would be greatly revived. What say you for a market day?

THE FREMONT COUNTY SUN. May 4, 1893. "Anderson News". -- There are two or three huckster wagons from Randolph running the roads near here, for eggs, and distributing groceries and other goods. Now, no one has a better right to the roads, or the patronage of the people along them, than the Randolph merchants. If the people living nearer Anderson than Randolph wish to starve out every and all effort to build up a trade, and grow a town that shall command the attention of business men, it is to the individual interest of the Randolph merchant to take advantage of such stupidity. But if people whose trade, travel and locality considered, naturally, would come to Anderson wish to encourage business men here, they must give them their support, by selling to them as well as buying of them. Patronize the Anderson egg and grocery wagon, and Randolph hucksters will surrender the territory tributary to Anderson.
