Re: Chappelle,Loudon,Thorn,Hatton,Raycroft
Hi Jan,
I am researching a Chapel/Chapell family that was apparently from Chenango Co (born from the late 1700's to early 1800's). Can you tell me which Chappelle's you might have?

Scott...I am researching Eugene Chappell who was married to Olive Adams . He was a vertinary in Greene NY in the 1800s. He had several siblings they were.. John, Adelia,(she married Dewit Watraus) Nancy, George, Charles, and James. I do know there are several Chapels in and around Greene but I don't think they are any relation but I am not sure. Please let me know if you find something or if I can be of more help. Jan

Scott- I am looking for a Phoebe or Persis?Chappelle married to an Isham or his son Daniel Purple. They both were in the Greene area of Chenango county in 1840 and then moved to Triangle, Broome coiunty(next county south)1850 before moving in middle 1860's to Michigan.

Re: Chappelle,Loudon,Thorn,Hatton,Raycroft
Hi Barbara,
I don't have any info on this group. Interesting how so many families in this area made their way to Michigan (along with many that moved to Ontario). I know many that went to Ontario were from Loyalist families that moved their after the Rev. War, but why did so many families return to the U.S. (Michigan in the 1860's)? Just a huge mass of people seem to flood into Michigan in the 1860's...interesting.

I am researching Hannah Lydia Hatton from West Bainbridge whom married my grandmothers grandfather James E Brown from Oxford in 1866. They had 6 children, 4 died at an early age of diptheria. The 2 surviving were William and Bertha (Hawley) Brown. Hopefully there may be a connection.

Re: Chappelle,Loudon,Thorn,Hatton,Raycroft
I am also researching Chapel/Chapell's in this area. I am researching Lyman Chapell (and his parents), son of Asa and Betsey. Lyman was born 1803/1804 in Connecticut and (I think) moved with his family to Chenango and then he moved on to Prattsburg in Steuben Co. It appears that Asa stayed in Chenango- I can't locate Asa in 1840 and in 1850; it appears he was living in the Chenango poorhouse, possible listed as insane! There is an Asa Chapel/Chapell in 1840 but I don't think it is this one- I think he had a son Asa, and perhaps a brother or cousin. Anyway- my ancestor is Lyman (the younger), son of Oliver Chapell, son of Lyman (the elder), son of Asa (son of Ezekial from Montville/New London Conn.) Any connection or information would be appreciated!

Re: Chappelle,Loudon,Thorn,Hatton,Raycroft
I did find obits for a Lyman Chapell(1923) and an Oliver Chapell(1901). Do they connect and do you need these obits?

Re: Chappelle,Loudon,Thorn,Hatton,Raycroft
They are the correct Chapell's, and I do have obits for both. They are very short obits- a couple of sentences- if you found something longer or more informative, that would be appreciated. Thank you, Mark
