Schmidt family in Lutatniki, Austria

I am looking for information on a town that existed in the Austria-Hungarian empire. It was called Lutatniki. My great grandfather John Schmidt listed it on his draft registration card as his birthplace (Lutatniki, Austria). He came over to America around 1910 and always said he was Austrian. His primary language was Polish.

I have had no success finding it on the internet and have come to the conclusion that it no longer exists. I would appreciate any information or leads that anyone can give me. I would love to know where in Austria or in another surrounding country that this town existed so I can one day visit it.

Please attach a scan of the draft registration form.
Any other US document on this ancestor like naturalization intent and petition; social security numbers; marriage record?

Polish, Austria would suggest historical region Galicia.

I don't have a marriage record but it is thought they were married shortly after they arrived in America. They were married no later than 1915.

Thank you Natalia for posting the draft registration form. It is clear to me that it was the clerk who filled out the form and your ancestor only signed it.
You need to request and pay $27 for your John SCHMIDT's SS-5Form. That form should have his place of birth and parents names.
Do you know the maiden name of Mrs. John SCHMIDT?

Take a listen how a Lutatniki might sound with a different voice. http://ivona.com

This is great information I will definitely purchase the full form! Mrs John Schmidt was Barbara Mandrona however my family believes her name has changed from its original spelling. All we know is she never spoke of where she came from. If we asked she would get very emotional especially regarding the whereabouts of her mother. She was very traumatized by whatever she went through coming to America. My guess is it has something to do with the Bolshevik revolution but I know very little about the history out there.

I think the location Pomunigta, Pomidnita that MANDRONA were from might be Pomoneta:
Mandrowh, Haska Pomonieta, Austria 18 1894 1912 [surname could be MANDRONA/WA] on NY EI arrival manifest.

Pomenenta, Pomoneta populated place 49°24' N 24°26' E E M U G Ukraine 279.6 miles WSW of Kyyiv 50°26' N 30°31' E

http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/digkonyv/topo/200e/42-49.jpg on this map as Pomanieta; East of Chodorow - straight down from large 42 on top of the map.

A MANDRONA phone listing in Canada www.canada411.com
Looked there on account that
Mandrona, Wasyl Bysskowche 27 1877 1904 was in transit to Canada.

yes, and nr. 7 was from this town in the Ukraine (former Galicia): http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doliniany

some info to it at another posting: http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/localities.eeurope.ukraine.lviv...

my guess for LUTATNIKI is a misspelling for a place in this area also. maybe also Lipniki is possible. there are some in Poland: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lipniki

http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/digkonyv/topo/200e/42-49.jpg On this map you will find Dehowa, Pomanieta, Zalipie.
Dehowa/Deliowa/Debawa, Austria/Debowa = Dehowa
Pomidnita, Austria/Pomunigta, Austria = Pomanieta
Zalipie, Austria = Zalipie

Could the "Lutatniki" be a Bortniki which is South of Chodorow on the above map? It would be best if you would provide the board with his arrival manifest, if you have located it.

On the same map as Pomanieta further East there are locations ending with "niki" Kuropatniki, Swistelniki, Tenelniki, Konkolniki, Poplowniki, Czesniki.
