1880 Census record lists Jesse & Catharine [Prestonville, Carroll, KY] as parents of John age 17. Attempting to tie Jesse to John Henry Carrico [B-May 1864]. Census & family records tie my GF, Earl [B-1886/D-1959]to John Henry [spouse Roxie Adams].

All of the Census records 'tie' but a 1942 death certificate for John H. Carrico, showing a Jesse Carrico as Father, is signed by Earl with a birth of May 1879, not May 1864. Confusing so if anyone has a little light to shed would be grateful. Earl was married Martha Ann Watts

Death certificate are usually accurate with regard to the date and place of death, but the rest of the information may be inaccurate because it depends on the knowledge of the informant. I discuss this problem on this page at my web site:

The John CARRICO with wife Roxie and son Earl in the 1900 Census of Carroll Co., KY, is age 36 and has a birth date of May 1864. Whether John is Jesse's son or not (and I think he is), it's clear that Earl didn't know his father's birth year and gave an incorrect one on the death certificate.
