Lake Forest Hist. Soc.

Hello from Washington state,
I am wondering if anyone can tell me if the Lake Forest Hist. Soc. would hold newspaper microfilms from the 1926 era.
The time specific to my needs would be Feb. 1926.
My uncle died then and I believe he was at work in a R.R. tower as a signalman of a sudden death.
I would like to see if an obit was published, if an article was written up, etc.
I have sent an email to the society in hopes of a response from them to this.
Thank you for any help someone might be able to offer that have knowledge of their holdings.

Don, I belong to the LFHS and they may have something on your Uncle. Also there is and was a weekly LF newspaper put out called The Lake Forester. The library has them all on microfilm. If you haved the exact date, someone there may be able to go take a look for you.

May I ask what your Uncle's name was? My family have lived in LF since 1900.

Carolyn,
Thank you very much for the information, I do appreciate it.

My uncle was - FINEL, Edward John - he lived at 367 Trousdale Ave. in Lake Bluff, Ill. and he worked for the Railroad until his death. He died 23 Feb. 1926 and the certificate lists L.F. as the death location. I think Aunt Bertha with their daughters then moved to the Waukegan Illinois area. My family was living in the Waukegan - Wadsworth - Gurnee regions for the most part. I don't believe except for Uncle Ed anyone else lived in L.F. He was born in Wadsworth.

My father always told that he fell from the tower upon his sudden unexpected death.

He had been a signalman for the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad.

I am fortunate in having his railroad watch, it having been passed to me by my father and I prize that so much.

Sorry Don, I guess I wouldn't have recognized the name if the family wasn't from LF.

You are quite fortunate to have a keepsake from your Uncle.

Please do contact the society as I am sure they would have something in their archives about the terrible death of your Uncle.

Don, Have you obtained the file from the railroad yet? Sometimes they will have a copy of the obit in their file along with a plethora of other information. I sent for my Uncle Carl Dorfler's file years ago and found out the names of both of his wives (Anna Ford and Mary Kathyrn Ann Burns), including their last names (I had run into dead ends on last names for them), the date and location of his 1st wife's death, the marriage date and location of his second wife. It was a very pleasant surprise. Also, could you email me off list so I can update my contact info for you. Years ago we had determined we were connected, either on the Dorfler, Scheid or Yore sides. My computer crashed a yr and half ago. (Cindy Dorf ler- Hed er er email is hed er er 93@ austin.rr com

Hi Cindy,
I will respond later with my home email address. (right now I have to do some volunteer work for a local cemetery I volunteer for and they need a file urgently.)

Thanks for suggesting about the R.R. file on my uncle. I was thinking about it but wondered because he died in 1926 there might not be one.

Don
