I am trying to determine whether the Thomas Roach (1809-1882), who is buried in Pyles Cemetery is the same person, who married Elizabeth M. Eddins on 8/14/1833 in Wilson Co., TN. Elizabeth was b. 5/10/1816 Wilson Co., TN. In 1840 there was only one Thomas Roach listed in the entire TN census index and he was living in ?Wilson Co (age listed 20-30). In 1850 Dyer Co., TN, Thomas Roach, age 41 KY Gunsmith, with wife E.M. age 34 TN, sons: S. D. age 14, M.W. age 12, and J. R. age 10.
1860 Lamar Co., TX Pct. 2 Thomas Roach 42 TN Farmer, wife Elizabeth 44 TN, William 22 TN, Jas Riley 20, Elizabeth McLure 22 TN Domestic, Louisa McLure 16 TN Domestic
On 12/12/1861 Elizabeth McClure married Jas R. Roach in Lamar Co., TX.
1870 Lamar Co., TX Beat 5 Thos Roach 61 KY Farmer, E. M. female 54 TN, R. M. male age 7 TN
1880 Lamar Co., TX 5th Pct. Thos Roach 71 KY Gunsmith, L. (?) 45 wife TN, Charles 5 TX, Ed 3 TX.
J. R. Roach and S. D. Roach both served in the 29th TX Cavalry. There is a J. R. Roach (1840-1918) buried in Pyles Cemetery as well.
All of this looks like the same family, with Elizabeth dying sometime between 1870-1875. She is not listed in the cemetery records posted online.
I would greatly appreciate any information that pertains to this family, in hopes of proving it is the correct family.

Thank you for the reply. I'm not sure if you really answered my query or not. We agree on the marriage date, but is the Thomas Roach, who is buried in Pyles Cemetery the same person , as the Thomas Roach who married Elizabeth Eddins? All the census information points to that belief, but was hoping for something more concrete.

Re: Thomas Roach 1809 - 1882
I am trying to make the connection for you and all I have found so far, which you may have already is a
Name: Martha L. Roach Born: 1 Jul 1872 Died: 15 Oct 1874 Buried: Pyles Location: NORTHWEST Notes: Buried near Thomas Roach
Could this have been their daughter? And there was no obits on microfiche for that far back. Did the couple have any other children that in looking maybe at their individual death certs and/or obits, could find the answers for you?
Let me know how I can help you the most.

Thank you for the reply. Thomas and Elizabeth Eddins Roach appear to have had 3 sons, based on the 1850 and 1860 census (S. D. b. bet. 1835-1836; M. W. b. bet. 1837-1838, and J. R. b. bet. 1839-1840. I believe J. R. to be James Riley and M. W. is M. William. I believe that the S.D and J. R. Roach listed in the 29th Texas Cavalry are the same.
29TH TEXAS CAVALRY Confederate States Army Roach, Charles, Pvt., Co. I, enlisted in Red River Co. Roach, J. K. P., Pvt., Co. F, enlisted in Red River Co. Roach, J. R., Sgt., Co. C, enlisted in Lamar Co. Roach, S. D., Sgt., Co. C, enlisted in Lamar Co. Roach, W. H., Sgt., Co. F, enlisted in Red River Co.
The Martha Roach you mention may very well be the daughter of Thomas Roach and his apprent 2nd wife, Lucinda Barlew/Barlow.
Marriage Record for Thomas Roach Spouse: Lucinda Barlew Date: 9 Aug 1872 B/G: Groom County and State: Lamar Co. TX
Without more solid information, it is still speculation on my part, that the Thomas Roach who married Elizabeth Eddins, is the same person as the person buried in Pyles Cemetery.

One avenue to consider is this:
how many individuals with the name of Thomas Roach lived in Lamar County or surrounding area?
did those individuals have the same approximate year of birth?
have you ordered the will for Thomas Roach to see what heirs at law were listed?

Re: Thomas Roach 1809 - 1882
The James R. Roach enumerated in the 1860 Lamar Co. census with parents Thomas and Elizabeth Roach is James Reilly (Riley) Roach b. Sept 18, 1849 Tn d. Apr 8, 1918 in Oklahoma Co., Oklahoma. James married Elizabeth McClure Dec 12, 1861 in Lamar Co. He was first married to Elizabeth McClure b. abt. 1837 Tn d. abt. 1871 in Lamar Co. She was the daughter of James McClure and ? Elizabeth and her sister, Louisa McClure, are also in the Roach family in 1860. I have more on the McClure and associated families if anyone is interested.
