I know my gggfather was born in Whitley Co. His name was Jonas Pompey. His father, Fielding came to Whitley Co from Va. Anyone have more info?

They probably married in the late 1860s or early 1870s. Elizabeth was the daughter of David M. Long and Susan Spies. Can anyone suggest a group of names of male Pompey's who could fit this profile, and I will in turn search them on the census?

I have a James Pompey born abt 1834, Nathan D. Pompey born abt 1836, Joseph F. Pompey born abt 1839, Allen S. Pompey born abt 1845, Peterson J. Pompey born abt1848, Napoleon Pompey abt 1841, Washington Pompey 1835, Dawson W. Pompey born abt 1848, Alonzo Clinton Pompey 1858.

children: Isabella Ann Long, Noah S. Long, Charles H. Long, Abraham M. Long.

Check and see if you have any Jeffries in your line. The Pompey, Jeffries, Jones traveled together and they also married with in the same family years ago. I found Washington Pompey, 36, IN in the 1880 Census in Covert, Van Buren, MI. He married Annie Jenkins and they had Lafayette b. 1878 and Della who married Orville Connor/Conner. Orville was the son of John Connor and Malinda Jane Casey. I am researching a Charlotte Burden who married Thomas Casey and I believe Malinda Jane was their granddaughter. Some of the Burdens and Griffins lived in Whitley County, IN. Are there any Burdens, Griffins or Casey/Cazy in the cemetery in Whitley?

I am responding to this from the Burden side... we have just started to try and find information out about our history, which is an adventure, My Grandfather was Earl Elzworth Burden a brother to Silas we believe... He was of Mulatto descent and we do know that his father Was Steven Burden and Mother Martha Jane (Stubblefield-we believe) he was born in 1892 and had a younger brother Roy E Burden.... I would love to find out some more information :)
