Hi
Melba,
Well, because now I'm the
Warren County USGENWEB coordinator I can finally reply to this (just kidding). As you know, your Lewis G. Simmons ended up as a "key" name in the search for - as it turned out - our mutual famiily roots. We now know that Lewis G. Simmons was a son (along with William,
Moses, Lewis and Henry) of
Moses Simmons, who was born 1801 in Warren,
Georgia. Lewis G.'s grandfather was Jonathan
Simmons, who was born ca. 1780 but obviously not in Warren, which was only established in 1793. We're still trying to nail down Jonathan's origin's, but it seems apparent his father was named William
Simmons (we have
Warren County tax records as well as an 1822
Jones County,
Georgia guardianship bond as evidence of this assumption).
Moses
Simmons' other siblings, all mentioned in the
Jones County guardianship bond, were Mary (b. about 1803), Martin (b. about 1805) and Lewis (b. about 1808). Lewis, the uncle of your Lewis G., is my 3rd-gr-grandfather.
The very confusing thing about researching
Simmons surnames in Warren,
Georgia is that "from the get-go" there were at least three different, apparently unrelated,
Simmons lines living there. Diligent researchers need to be aware of this fact....
Best Regards,
"Cuz" Tom
