Wm. Latimer was a godfather for Walter Smothergill, my grandfather's brother, at St. John's Anglican Church, Christiansted on May 9, 1897. He also was a judge at the Easter Monday races on St. Croix in 1904. The Smothergills were from County Cavan, Ireland. Do you know whether Wm. Latimer also might have been from there? About a dozen men have been identified who went to the Danish West Indies from County Cavan. I'll put the URL for a web site about this at the end.

Trudy, I am searching for descendants of George Ewing Latimer, born in IN 1829, son of Elisha and Jane Ewing Latimer; son, John Wilbur. George moved from IN to MS with his parents in 1840-45, but am not sure when he or his family moved to FL. If any of this sounds familiar or matches, I have info on other family of Elisha and Jane Latimer. Need info on George Ewing Latimer and his descendants. Thanks. Kay

The 1911 Census of the Danish West Indies shows a family at Estate Rattan headed by Wm Lattimer. An Episcopalian born in Ireland, Lattimer was 56 years old at the time, a widower, and had arrived in the DWI in1878. Children were George age 19, William age 9, Hulda age 8, and James age 6. An Episcopalian from Ireland suggests Scotch-Irish ancestry. Anyone know where in Ireland he or other Lattimers on St. Croix were from?

William Latimer b. 1855 and his brother Thomas b. 1857 both went to St Croix. They were sons of James Latimer and Frances Anne Magee Fermanagh, Ireland. James was the brother of my g-g-grandfather Robert Latimer.
