I am attaching a copy of the obit of Cyrus King who died in Buchanan Jan. 8, 1893. This isn't a lot of help as it does not name any relatives.
I did look at the cemetery listings for Oak Ridge cemetery in Buchanan and Charity and Cyrus King are buried there; both are Sect. G, Lot 28.
Charity King 1843-1927 (no stone)
Cyrus King no dates Civil War Co. Q 102 US Colored Inf.
Also, it does appear that the Berrien County Historical Assn. does have a probate file for Cyrus King (Number is #8813). His heirs would be listed in the Petition to Commence Proceedings and there might be a will. They also have a death record for Charity King who died in Buchanan Feb. 27, 1927.
This is the link to the page on their website with info on how to get copies:
http://www.berrienhistory.org/arch.htmlIf you have looked on Ancestry.com, you probably have this info but there is a Civil War Pension file for Cyrus King. It looks like he received a pension from July 3, 1884 and it was paid to his widow Charity starting June 21, 1893. The Pension index does not indicate that there were any minor children.
However, in the 1900 Census, Charity King is living in Buchanan at 413 Fulton St. She is 56 years old (born July 1843 in North Carolina), black, widowed. There is a 17 year old daughter Ida May King born April 1883 in Michigan.
(There are 2 boarders who do not seem to be related.) It says that she had 12 children but only 3 living in 1900.
In the 1880 Census, Cyrus and Charity are in Buchanan with 4 children, James, William, Cyrus and unnamed Baby, 4 months.
I hope that this helps--even if to rule out?
