I am also a direct descendant of Lucinda McWhorter, daughter of John A McWhorter who was probably from South or maybe North Carolinaa but I cannot match him up with any of the many John McWhorters. Pauline, I have info on the Corbins down to my grandmother, Ruby Corbin grandaughter of Lucinda. Lucinda, I need your help if by chance you are descended form my John A.
McWhorter -- he was born about 1786

My gggg-grandmother is Lucinda McWhorter Corbin. I found James, Lucinda and children living next to John A. and Elizabeth McWhorter in Yell Township, Boone Co., IA 1860 Census. This info was obtained from Heritage Quest Online. Joshua was 18 yrs. and at home. It states John A. was born in South Carolina, Elizabeth in North Carolina, Lucinda in Tennessee and James in Tennessee. I am unsure about the info on James birth. Maybe the enumerator misunderstood. Feel free to e-mail me if you have a question. My mother was a Corbin. First born child of Marshall and Elizabeth [Kuper] Corbin. Yesterday I found an article from Sheridan Co. NE concerning the marriage of Ruby Corbin to William Higgs. He was a mail carrier between Merriman and Kyle. Joshua was teaching at Notlesh Creek. They were married by Rev. Amos Ross at the Episcopal Church. You probably have this info but thought I'd pass it along anyway. Happy Hunting, Arlene

Thanks for the response. I am not sure if I have the side info about where Joshua was teaching or the ministers name -- where did you find the article -- would love to see it!

Who was Marshall Corbin's father? I have a lot of info about the Corbins, much of which cane from Pauline.

I am still at a dead end on John A. Mcwhorter -- I think he was born about 1786 in North Carolina or South Carolina or maybe Kentucky. I also have some info about Lucinda's sisters and their weddings. Feel free to email me if you like.

Hi, glad to finally have some info on this family. John Casswell Corbin is the father of Marshall. James Corbin is found on the 1860 US Census, living next door to John A. and Elizabeth McWhorter. I found this on Heritage Quest Online. This is a subscription site. Your library may subscribe. John was born in South Carolina and Elizabeth in North Carolina. John was 72yrs. and Elizabeth was 70yrs. The census is Iowa , Boone Co. Yell Twp. I don't have your e-mail address otherwise I would send info by e-mail.Ruby and William were living in Sheridan Co. NE. when they married. I found the article on Sheridan Co. NE Genweb site under "Oldtime Nebraska".I would love to exchange info with you. I have a copy of Joshua McWhorter's entry papers to the Old Soldiers Home in Ortig, Wa. and the location of his grave. You probably have a copy of Martha's Obituary but if not, I have one. Feel free to e-mail anytime. Ruby and Wm. were married in 1903 by Rev. Amos Ross. Joshua was teaching at Notlesh Creek which I assume was on the Pine Ridge Reservation. I can't find Notlesh Creek on any of my maps so it is just a guess. Let me know if I can help you with any info I have, especially on later family; I am happy to share. Arlene

Sorry for my delay in answering your questions. John Casswell and Rose May [Kane] Corbin were Marshall's parents. Check Martha's obit for some of the info. The minister's info is on the"Oldtime Nebraska" website under Sheridan Co. Please e-mail me if you have more questions, I check that on a regular basis. Again I apologize for my tardiness. Arlene
