I am looking for any info about William and Clarissa and their families. The little I know I gleaned from birth and death certificates and census information.

-William was born in England about 1843.
-I don't have Clarissa's maiden name but it as believed she was born about 1840 in Illinois.
-They had at least 4 children, Sophia Jane, Florence Bell, William Barton and Chester.
-Between 1900 and 1910, they moved to Chicago, IL but all 4 children were born in Ontonagon County, MI.
-Sophia died without marring at the age of 18
-Florence married 3 times John Hayes/Frank Thornton/Kresser
-I'm not sure where William Barton went to after 1910
-Chester married Gertrude (?maiden) and they had at least one child named William.
-William, Clarissa, Chester and Gertrude are buried in the Chicago Area
-Florence is buried in the Aurora, IL area.

You may already have gotten the information you need about Clarissa's parents, but since she is the sister of my great great grandmother, Sarah Louise Johnson ROGERS, I will tell you what I know. Clarissa's parents were Sophia SAGE b.18 Apr 1806, Bennington, VT., d. 4 Jan 1882, Ontonagon, MI; and Lathrop Johnson b.26 July 1802, NY d. 2 July 1881, Ontogagon,MI. Lathrop's parents were Ebenezer Johnson, b.9 May 1760 probably in MA. d. 1841, Buffalo NY. and Deborah Lathrop. One of Lathrop's brothers was Dr. Ebenezer Johnson Jr. who was the mayor of Buffalo and another was Elisha Johnson, who was also prominent in that region.

I am one of Florence Westlake Great grand daughters and at this time, family genealogists for my line. I happened along a streak of good fortune when I called up to the Ontonagon Library. They put me in touch with an local historian who is writting about the founding families and history of Ontonagon. Lathrop Johnson and Sarah Sage both belong to those families. He has forwarded a great deal of information to me on the family lines from Lathrop and Sarah. I will be happy to forward it on, but it seems you have most of it now.

A few things we are missing that you may have information on are:
-Where and when did Lathrop and Sarah marry? We can't find a marriage record.
-Immigration records on William Westlake. I don't have a location or family information on him.
-Do you know what happened to William Jr.?
-Did Lathrop Johnson leave a will or probate with other family information?

It seems Clarissa and some of the other children were born in Fort Dearborn, IL which we now know as Chicago. In the little time I've had available, unless those children were baptised, there probably is no record.

I also found a land purchase record for Lathrop Johnson in Lasalle Co, IL, but other than location, acreage and price, there is no further info at this time. But since I have the legal location, I can work on that.

Last, has any of the Johnson/Sage family taken the DNA test that was offered on Ancestry? I had my Dad do this, and we are matched up with only the Olin line at the moment.

To answer your questions:
As far as I know, Lathrop and Sarah married in Pomfret twp., Chautauqua County, NY on 20 Mar 1825. Perhaps the county has vital records back that far. From there they went to Adamsville, Cass County, Michigan along with Sophia's uncle Moses Sage. They appear there in the in about 1833.

I don't know about William Westlake's immigration records. I never tried to find any.

I haven't heard of any will or probate relative to Lathrop Johnson, but you'd think there might be something in the Ontonagon County records since he died in the 1810's.

As far as William Westlake Jr. goes, I find him in the 1920 census under the name of "Weottake" and under the correct name in the 1930 census. That's the last I know of him. It appears that his wife Henrietta may have died in Cook County, Illinois, 29 Sept 1948, but one would have to get the record to know for sure.

I don't believe any of the Johnson decendants that I know have taken the DNA test. I guess it would have to be a direct line of males to be most effective, wouldn't it? The only relatives I know are from Lathrop's daughters.
