I'm not an expert, but I don't think there is such a thing as a family crest or a family coat of arms. What you may be looking for is an individual coat of arms. However, according to Milton Rubincam, "armorial bearings were granted to a certain individual, and only his descendants in the male line are entitled to them. Collateral branches of the same family may not bear them." [M. Rubincam, Pitfalls in Genealogical Research (Salt Lake City: Ancestry Publishing Co., 1987), p. 55.]

Funny - I read this and directly behind me hanging on the wall is the Schlosser Crest(?) - not sure if it is authentic - my inlaws bought it for us years ago. Because Schlosser stands for the keeper of the key to the castle - it shows a picture of a key in the middle - again I do not know how authentic it is but when I speak to my brother-in-law I can check with him - while he was in the Air Force he was stationed in Germany for awhile and found out alot of info on our family name. It may take awhile for he is visiting out relatives in WI now.

Hi Kathy, Goodness I was wondering if possible you could scan the crest and send it as an attachment to me? I would love to hear from your brother about what he actually found out about the Schlosser crest and family name or discription.
I live in LeRoy Michigan and My husband's great grandfather was Valentine Schlosser, I found out from doing some research that the family actually come from Kentucky, Valentine one son named William Schlosser was the father of my father inlaw. Valentine served in the Cival War, in fact he lost his right hand from it.
He was also a Butcher by trade, but after losing his hand he had no trade. I guess he tried farming in Michigan for he bought 160 acres of land. His family lived on it for many years. I am not to sure the history behind it completly. Anyway I was hoping you would know about this family line. There are some in Ohio that are connected
Theresa Wagner I believe was her name. Dose any of these name ring a bell.
Thanks for your time.

I will ask my brother-in-law about his findings in Germany but we are fortunate enough to have alot of information on the family.

Grandma Schlosser (Henrietta) lives in Durand - she is 89 and my father-in-law worked on the farm there in WI growing up and went into the service and ended up here in VA where he raised his six children.

When we visit WI there are alot of relatives. Grandpa (John Sr.) Schlosser died in 1981 but his sister is living in Durand and we do keep in touch. Most are in WI except for Jim Schlosser (my father-in-laws brother) lives in TX with his family. I'll have to dig up the info I have and send you further back from John Sr. and his parents - actually I believe his name was Oscar Schlosser.

Send me your email address and I'll fill you in with more detail.

I have all the research done on the Schloser family
tree for the Schlossers in and around Durand,Wi.
My father is Oscar, grandfather Vincent, greatgrand
father Englebert. The only way your relative could be this
Schlosser, a probabilty, is that many of the
Schlosser sons (Of Englebert) stayed in the old country
(Austria). I know that one of the brothers of
Vincent and Lawrence (sons of Englebert) is Nicholas.
Post message.
