This information was hand written on a letter from Dean Harrison, to Tom Duggan Harrison, July 4th 1972.
In the letter, Dean states that the 1790 Census puts them in Pitts County, N.C. at that time; from Fairfax County VA, listing both John and Joseph W. Harrison both as head of household. Pherada (Sp?) Duggan Harrison, being the mother of Joseph and John, and wife of William D. Harrison.
Does this make any sense? Sorry. I need help with this. Has anyone else ran across these names? Please reply if so!
THANKS!!!

Pharaby (Farabee) Duggan is the sister of my 3rd great grand mother Elizabeth (Betsy) Duggan who m. Archelaus Cone.

Mary McCeale m. William Harrison and they had only the one child Joseph. After William Harrison died she married John Garrett and after he died she married Jonathan Baker, my 3rd great grandfather.

I hope the information above is related to your Pharaby Duggan and will be of help. Let me know if I can be of additional help by E-mailing me.

Have run across all of the names you mentioned. I will try to clarify some of the info you are requesting if I can.
William Duggan married Mary Smithwich and a daughter, Pharaby Duggan was born around 1741. They also had a son William Duggan II who married Chloe Ann Hyman. William and Chloe had at least 11 children of which John, Joseph and Pharaby (born1785) were three. Pharaby's name has often been americanized as Farabee. This Pharaby married Joseph W. Harrison. They had at least three daughters: Elizabeth Duggan Harrison, Penelope G. Harrison and Jane Selina Harrison. I have so far found no referrence at this time to sons born to that marriage. Pharaby and Joseph Harrison's daughter, Elizabeth Duggan Harrison married John Glen Fulghum. Penelope G. Harrison married Matthew Fulghum. The two sisters married brothers. This Duggan/Harrison/ Fulghum connection is on my grandmother's side of the family. Do you need more information or are you totally confused?

Is this the same Phereby Dugan that was the second wife of William Hyman? He lived in Martin County, NC, where he died in 1792. William Hyman had first married another Duggan (first name unknown), who was a daughter of John Dugan from the same area of NC.
I found a William Duggan, and an Aaron Duggan on the 1790 Census of Martin County, NC.
There was another William Duggan on the 1790 Census of Edgecombe County.
Any information is appreciated.

My Phera'b'a Duggan is burried in a small southern Ga town by the name of Worthen (s.p.?), south of Sparta, Ga.. I don't know anything about her marraige history-sorry. Apparently the Duggan family had a decent farm in the Washington/Wilkes area of Ga., back in the early 1900's. Sorry, but that's all i have at this point.

Good Luck

The William that you are referring to also had an uncle named William Hyman (his father's brother.John Hyman was the son of Hugh Hyman & Mary ?It gets quite confusing in that often they married their 1st cousings, siblings widows, etc. The connection between the 2 wives is Rhoda Duggan & Pheraby (Farabee) Duggan were first cousins. Pheraby's father was William Duggan . Rhoda's father was John Duggan, II. They were brothers. I hope that this clears up some of your questions.

Thanks for the information!
Have you come across any GIBBS in NC before 1824?
I am trying to locate some GIBBS that might have lived near the HYMANS in Martin County or nearby counties in NC. I did find a Whitley GIBBS on the 1810 and 1830 census of Martin County, NC. I have not found his name mentioned anywhere else. The 1820 Census of Martin County was destroyed somehow.
It seems that HYMANS migrated to SC in the late 1700s.
One was John Eaton Hyman whose wife was Wealthy/Welthy Hyman who later married Captain Cannon GIBBS who was said to have also come from NC in the early 1820s.
Any information on these people who be greatly appreciated.
Susan
