Gross (1879 - 1961)
Services will be conducted Thursday at 2 pm at the
Beatty Chapel for Mr Mrs. Ruth E. Gross, 81, who died unexpectedly Monday at her home in
Emmett. The Rev. James White will officiate and interment will be at
Ola.
Mrs. Gross (daughter of William
Cramer and Ruth Janie
Cogburn Cramer) was born November 6, 1879, at Kirbyville, MO. She came west with her parents in a covered wagon in 1866. They settled first in
Oregon and moved to Round Valley,
Valley County,
Idaho, in 1887. In 1891 they moved to
Ola where she married Richard
Gross on Jan 28, 1900. He preceded her in death in 1918.
Operating a ranch on Squaw
Creek, Mrs. Gross was the founding postmistress of the
Gross Post Office, a position she held for a number of years. The post office was named in her honor.
In 1949 she moved to New Plymouth and to
Emmett in 1957 where she has since resided. She was a member of the Methodist Church.
She was proceeded in death by four children.
Survivors include a son, Vernon, a brother, John
Cramer, both of
Emmett, a granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
