Are there any volunteers taking cemetery photos in Hancock County? I am seeking grave photos of Jesse Marion CAIN who died 4 May 1895 and Hesse Standley CAIN who died 4 Sep 1888.

I have obituaries of them, I think, in church periodicals in my possession. They were members of Providence Church, which is in the neighborhood of the Irwin Cemetery. I live about 20 miles away.

This is wonderful! If the obituaries are not too long, can you post them here?

Robert,
I have the obits for Jesse & Hesse but I would really appreciate a picture of their headstones. They were my ex-husband's great great grandparents.
I was lucky enough to receive a lot of information collected by one of his aunts, Hazel Harper Sutton. She died in 1975 so her research was done the old fashion way. I also have the book, The Descendants of Nicholas Cain, written by Shirley Evans & Wayne Cain.

Barbara,

Since you have the obits, could you share them with the other person who asked for them?

I would suggest you contact the St. Marys Township Supervisor and find out who does the mowing at the Irwin cemetery, and see if they could take photos for you sometime while they are out there. I'm not sure I could even find it, I've only been there once or twice, nearly 40 years ago.

I tried to mow at the Old Brick cemetery this morning, but it was too much for my mower. I'll have to hire someone with a tractor mower.

I am trying to see if our Cain's are related. My Cain (Caine) family came from Lancaster Co., PA in 1830's to Hancock Co., IL. The children (Joseph, Elizabeth, Mary and Catherine) came with their mother (Sarah Ann Knott) and stepfather (Elisha Worrell).

I checked and found the obituaries and made a xerox copy of them today but I don't want to retype the info. I can't help with getting photos, but will send a copy of the obits if you provide me your mailing address. I don't charge, but if the obituaries help, and if you are able to make a small donation to cover our costs, it would be appreciated and used in some of the restoration projects we are involved in.
