I am looking for the Gilbert family coat of arms/crest. I have seen several, but they don't seem to have the same origins. My ancestors were originally "Dupuis", but was later changed when they arrived in Canada(Gilbert Dit Gilbert Dupuis and Jean Dit Gilbert Dupuis were the last to have the Dupuis surname). Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

Gilbert Arms- Argent(silver or heraldic white), on a chevron gules(RED) three roses of the field.

Crest- a squirrel sejant gules cracking a nut or.

Motto- Tenax propositi (firm of purpose)

SOURCE- American biography:a new cyclopedia, Volume 5

Arms for Fred Aliston Gilbert grandson of Charles Dupuis dit Gilbert. Charles came to America from England and moved to Canada. Name sounds of french origin. These arms may be Family Coat of Arms from France. But you will have to check England to make sure that an Individual was possibly granted these arms from England meaning it belonged to an ancestor not the entire family.
