STARZMAN

I am searching for info about my ggrandparents. Their name was Starzman, they were born in Alsace, and had 3 children in the 1890's, (Margaret, Helen and Emma) all listed with the birthplace of Brewster. Helen married Glen Reid, also from the Brewster area. There is a lake Starzman in Okanogan County named after them.
That's all I know- has anyone ever come across this name?
Thank you,
Susan Gress

Hi, What a shocked to see the name Starzman, as it is not a common name.
My mother Ruth Starzman (now deceased) was a daughter of Dick & Zenith Starzman.
Instead of there only being 3 sister that you listed, their were 5 children. Maggie (Margaret), Lena, Dick, Ella,(which later changed to Helen) and Emma. I have contacted my Aunt Marie (Starzman) Kirk and this is the information she gave me.
Dick Starzman's parents were Chris Starzman & Cathrine (now deceased) Dick & Zenith had 5 children together and they are Richard Starzman, Marie Starzman (Kirk) Robert Starzman (Deceased), Ruth Starzman (Shaw) (Deceased) and Ralph Starzman.
Richard & Dottie Starzman have 3 children, Dan, Chris, and Deb.
Jack & Marie have 5 children, John, Judy, Joel, Jay & Jane.
Robert had 2 children Robert, and Kathlene.
Louie & Ruth Shaw have 4 children, Lucille, Dick, Sam, Susan.
Ralph had 4 children, Theresa, Kirt, Wade and Jeff.
We still live near Brewster, not to far from Starzman Lake named after Chris Starzman.

Thank you for the great info! I guess there must have been a falling out between my grandmother and her parents somewhere along the line, because that is one branch of the family that were never mentioned very much.
Do you know where Chris and Catherine are buried? I would love to visit the grave. Also, do you know anything about their ancestry? When my grandmother passed away I saw her birth certificate (since lost), that listed her parents birthplace as Alsace, and his occupation there as stonemason. I am going to alsace in a couple of weeks and would love to be able to look for family there- there are a lot of Starzmann's in Wuertemburg, but that is not in Alsace.
Thank you for the reply- I thought I was the only Starzman searcher out there.
Cheers,
Susan Gress, Portland Oregon

I will be happy to find out any information that I can. I do believe Chris Starzman is buried in Brewster, I am not possitive about this, but we decorate all the graves in Brewster, along with my Mother's (Ruthie Starzman/Shaw) and a little sister who died at birth.
I think the person who is going to be able to give us the most information would be My Aunt Marie (Starzman/Kirk) she lives in Brewster. My wife and I actually live in Carlton, WA
We will keep in touch and I will let you know if I found out anything further.
Thanks

I have entered my research on the world family tree- I somehow screwed up a few things, like it shows Grandma Helen Starzman Reid as still alive, but it shows the Reid side pretty well- as they were from Brewster too I wonder if there are more connections than just Helen. You can find it by searching under Glen Reid. The only other Starzman from Washington I find is the Bissout family tree. Are you familiar with them?
Thanks again,
Susan Reid Gress

Susan, I have found out that Chris and Catherine are both buried at the Cemetary in Brewster, But they are not buried together.
I did not find out a lot about the Bissout family but Cathrine was a Bissout. Aunt Marie says that she thinks that Chris Starzman came from the Stuetzgart (spelling) area, and that he had other brothers and sister, but they did not all make it to the U.S. Maybe some of their children came later, I just am not sure.
I have spoke with some of the other family members and we are all excited about what you might find on your travels. Please keep in touch with us. And if I can help you out, let me know.

Susan, Yesterday (Mar. 15) we spent and afternoon with my Aunt Marie looking at some old pictures that she had gotten out for us to see, and the pictures also included many of your Grandmother (Ella) Helen. Aunt Marie was wondering if I thought you might like some of these pictures, and she would be happy to get some made for you. She also has picture of our Great Grandparents and some of our great Aunts. She is more than happy to get some pictures for you, but we do not know how to get in touch other than through here. If you could get in touch with me in Carlton which would be under a Pateros Wa listing. I could then either put you in touch with other family members who do not have computers or let them know if you are interested. Please keep in touch with us.
Thank You
Sam & Diane
