I have recently seen the posts with reference to the above book. The book was apparently published in 1900 in Spanish & English. I too am interested in finding a copy to purchase in either the Spanish or English version. I have searched using "google" with no success. Can anyone point me in the direction I need to go to purchase this book? Alternatively would sks with the book do a look-up for me?

Thank-you for your reply & offer to do a look-up. I am interested in the surname Tyrer. Juan & Jorge Tyrer had a shipping company called J. & J. Tyrer. I don't know when it was started but it went out of business after WWII. Their father George Tyrer was born in England. Any info on this family from the book is greatly appreciated.
Regards, Joan

Checked the index of names but regret Tyrer does not appear. Also checked Directory for Valparaiso 1896 again nothing. Checked my Brits in Chile but yet again nothing. Sorry to have drawn a blank. Most of my Valpo and Chile directories pre-date 1900

If it is not to much trouble could you please check the book for my father's family? I was told a number of years ago the book mentions Bill Chellew, Dick Chellew and my great grandmother Elcira Gonzalez. Bill would be my gg grandfather William Reynolds Chellew and Dick would be his brother Richard. Elcira was married to William's son Edward. Thank you, Jo Anne

Re: "Old Timers": British and Americans in Chile by Charles F. Hillman
Not much in the book I'm afraid. On page 200 there is a "...at Chanaral we hear of...A. Challew (sic)...". On page 226 "....Coquimba...."Dick" Chellew (sic)....". No mention of Gonzalez. The names above are amongst a list of others, and the book does not elaborate on what occupations they had or anything more - merely the name.

Sorry to bother you but i wonder if you could also do a look-up for me too. Anything on Hadida family particularly Samuel Joseph/Jose and his son Aurelio. Many thanks. Mike

Regret no mention in the index for Hadida
