I'm unclear about the above subject. Is Cataluna a region like---the Southwestern United States or a specific area equivilient to one of the US States? Is a province?

I know a certain Ysidro Obiols was born in Cataluna province of Loredo (possibly mispelling) in 1820's. I'm trying to find our where that is. Can someone direct me to an area of a Spain map that that region is located. I'm looking and can't find anything close other than Lerida.

Catalonia (Catalunya in Catalan) is one of the seventeen Autonomies in which Spain is divided. They are more or less equivalent to States in the US.

Catalunya's official languages are Spanish and Catalan; its capital is Barcelona.

There's no province of Loredo. You have already found it: it can only be Lerida (Lleida in Catalan). However, it will be impossible for you to find anything about Isidro Obiols knowing only he was born in the province of Lleida: you need to know the specific town where he was born.

And there's also the fact that in the 1820's there was no Civil Registration (created in the 1870s), only baptisms, and many parish books were burnt during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939).

My grandmother was Gertrude Obiols. She died in Santa Barbara (or perhaps Ventura) when my father was born in 1912. I wonder if her father was Ysidro Obiols. My grandmother lived In Ventura, CA and was the wife of Benjamin D. Moraga. Gertrude had a sister, Victoria. I found a reference to Ysidro Obiols being present in Ventura in 1853 and I wondered if he was the father of Gertrude and Victoria. Any Information would be appreciated. There are two Victoria Obiols - one was the wife of Jose (I believe son of Ysidro) and one was the daugher of Ysidro ... what year was your Grandmother born?

I'm a docent at the Ventura County Museum of History and Art - usually work Fri. afternoons (1-5 pm), so may be able to look up info when I'm there.

Ysidro Obiols was my Great-Great Grandfather. He had four sons and four daughters. One of his daughters was Victoria who resided in Nevada. Hope that info helps. Yes, Ysidro also had a daughter named Gertrude.

Victoria would have been my grandmother's sister. My grandmother, Gertrude must have been born around 1861. I believe she was 39 when she died shortly after giving birth to my father in 1912.

Any information would be appreciated.
