The following information comes from the book "DOWNIEVILLE Gold Town on the Yuba" by James J
Sinnott (page 78).
A letter to the editor (Sierra Democrat newspaper, 11 Sep 1861,
Summit Valley) describes a trip to through
Sierra County (Marysville to
Virginia City). It includes "Six miles over a high mountain (or on the side) over a delightful grade, brings us to another stopping place kept by Mr. Harris, formerly of Forest City. This is known as Middle
Waters Station."
There are a couple of notes concerning Mr Harris:
-- Harris
Meadows is named after this man.
-- The
Harris inn is commonly known as "Our House", but some say that is incorrect. It was really known as "Hour House".
