I'm looking for more info on Elwood Welborn Briles married Sara Lou. They had 4 children Rosco, Virgil 1884-1927, Gaither1887-1970, Oscar1890-1972.

Hi, i met a distant cousin a little while ago, our gr gr gr grandfathers were brothers, their parents were John Briles and Ann Nancy Beckerdite I was descended from their son Noah Briles and my newly found cousin was descended from Daniel Briles (death date was 1865) who married Elizabeth Davenport, Their son was Daniel Eli Briles born 1838 in north carolina, he married Emily Nancy Sawyer, Their son was Enoch Elwood Briles born 1860 in north carolina he married Maggie Ora Porterfield and the name Elwood is carried on in this family. so, i think its most likely that you are of this same line, since I havnt found the Elwood name used in other Briles family lines. Hi I think that hte same Elwood that I'm looking for. The story goes that Elwood Briles and Sarah Louemmy Briles never married (they would be 2nd cousins) but had the 4 children. One of the son said his father died when he was young. But Sarah is on your line. She is the daughter of (1)Hugh Briles & Pollyan Sawyer. (2)Solomon Briles & Charity. I have more info.

The BIN (Briles Information Network-www.briles.net) has received new information regarding Elwood Briles and Sarah Briles. We are now disputing the story that Elwood fathered the four boys. We have spoken to granddaughter of Virgil Briles (one of the boys) and the ggg-granddaughter of Elwood Briles. She is unware of EIwood fathering any kids with Sarah. have a copy of a SS Application that shows that Elwood Welborn is the father. I have also spoken to a Jack Welborn in Randolph Co. He is the great-grandson of Elwood Welborn. He states that he and Roscoe and Oscar hung out together and his grandfather placed the tombstone markers on their grave. He remembers referring to Sarah L. Briles as Aunt Louemmy, which would be correct because supposely Elwood Welborn was married to her sister, Mary Jane Briles. Unless you have sources to prove the "story" I believe my findings are more credible. Please respond if you have additional sources and proof. There are a lot of folks interested in this saga.
