Seeking information for Simona Cafranga. She was born about 1852 in Bilbao, emigrated to Liverpool and is found in the 1881 UK census. She married Manuel Gomes da Silva from Oporto Portugal in 1882.

Hi

Simona is my great, great grandma, but unfortunately I don't have anymore information other than what is already on this board.

Regards,

My grandfather was Anastatio Gomez. His parents were Simona Cafranga who married Manuel Gomes da Silva in St. Peter's RC church Liverpool on 17th July 1882. At the time Simona was 33, and her father was Baptiste Cafranga. Manuel was 25 and his father was Joseph da Silva.
What is your connection to the family?
Regards

Cormac

Hi Joe,
I guessed it was. Uncle Frank has the wedding certificate, and he's sending it down to me. As you may know I'm having a villa built in Portugal, and my Portuguese friend who is overseeing the project speaks excellent English) If Manuel Gomes da Silva was born in Porto (or Oporto = The Port) then we can seatch fro his birth certificate. I must be returning to my roots!
I'll send you some pics of the villa.

God Bless,

Cormac

E-mail a copy to me when you get it. I think Danny H. hired someone to search for records in Spain and Portugal, but I'm not sure if he came up with anything. Gomez is a common name, it might take a bit of searching to find the right person.

I searched through all of the Vizcaya baptismal records and could find nothing about a Simona Cafranga baptized in the region. I did find just one Simona Cafranga in all of Vizcaya (born in the Casco Viejo section of Bilbao) since records were first kept and through 1900, but unfortunately she was born in 1773:

Baptism Date:
1773-02-05

Name:
Agueda Simona Cafranga Acha

Father:
Manuel Cafranga Zarandona

Mother:
Maria Acha Mendiola

Yes, Danny hired someone to do research for him. That person would be me. You can contact me by e-mail at
fybarra@earthlink.net if you'd like information about what was found.
I don't have the information in front of me at the moment because I am not in my office. I am writing from the Family History Library, but I believe that we found that
Simona was most likely an orphan who took the surname CAFRANGA. I believe we found a Simona who's birthday matched on the AHEB-BEHA records. (Just as lastrucha was trying to do for you, but found only the listing in 1773).
We found the orphan by doing a search for the given name and the date/place...without the surname.
I'm pretty sure there was a lot of information about the
Portuguese side GOMEZ, but I really don't remember it "off the top of my head." If you'll e-mail me then I'll be able to tell you more about that and we can talk about sending you copies if you like.
