Surnames: Wasson
can someone tell me sources of info. I may send for in Coal County; have photo of my g-grandparents-Thomas and Adarna Wasson and family, that says it was taken in "Old Owl,OK",which we have been led to believe is Owl,in Coal County. Can not find any other record of them having lived in OK,but they must have for several years; any info. on sources or this settlement appreciated. Thanks.

What year was Thomas born? My great grandfather lived
nearby in Wesley Okla and had a younger brother named
Thomas. Thomas was born in 1867 in Illinois.
My great grandfather was William Henry Wasson.

Our Thomas was the son of William & Francina (Fletcher) Wasson; born 22,April,1847 in Crawfordsville,IN. How nuts have you gone sorting through John,Thomas, and William Wasson's!!

I know what you mean,it makes research very confusing.
One point of interest, my Thomas's grandmother
Anastatia Phillips is buried in Crawfordsville,IN.
Wassons all seem to connect somehow.

And 'round & 'round it goes! Our Thomas & Adarna were married in Illinois! I personally believe that there must have been just a couple or so Wasson's came from Scotland, and they "begat" this whole tribe! Then you could start with the spellings "Wason" Wasso" Wassum" ----

I think you are quite correct. My Wassons also lived in Illinois
in both Adams County and Greene County. I made a trip to
Payson Illinois last year and stood on the same land my
great great great grandfather farmed. I do feel all of the Wassons
who came to the new world are of the same stock. It is more than
just coincidental that we share first name choices and areas
to live. Every Wasson family I have found has roots in Indiana,
Kentucy, Penn,Illinois,Missouri or Oklahoma.
While I was growing up in rural Okla I thought my immediate
family were the only Wassons around as it is such a rare name.
I never met or heard of another Wasson outside of my family
until I was in my mid 20s. Now I am really amazed at how
large and diverse the Wasson clan is.

Me too! I'd never heard Wasson but for us! then we start researching and what do you figure? 2 million?! My branch of the Wasson's must be the only ones that came to the Wilds of New Mexico--until I received the photo of the family in OK, we didn't even know they'd lived there at all--just that some of the children married/moved there. But there is also TX,VA,&CT--we believe through other researchers that our "original American" was John,b-1717 CT--so that gives me the legacy of the name of the original ancestor, and the middle name of my g-grandfather--cool. But I wish someone had named the kids "Poindexter" or something-be easier to find!

Very interesting. I do not know any of the names on your list
however there is a tie of sorts.
My Great Grandfather who lived in Wesley was named
William Henry Wasson. William had three grandchildren
who match names with your list but are not the same
people. George Wasson born around 1921, Myrtle Wasson
born around 1923 and Jess Wasson born in the late 1930s.
I think it may be more than a coincidence to have 2 Wasson
families in a very under populated rural area with the same
choice of first names. Willam had several brothers and
a number of cousins. I think perhaps one of them may
be your line. If you have any other names going back to the 1800s or a location of early Wassons in your tree we may
find a relationship or tie.
