I am searching for ancestors of: Hartman/Micheal LITTEBRANT born bef 1755possibly in Kassell. Came to US with brother Benjamin. May have been others but I do not have their names. Settled in Mohawk Valley, New York State. Any info appreciated. You may contact me through the board or at my email address. TIA.

Barbara, my ancestors include a man named Hartman (Frank) Littlebrant born approx. 1831 in Albany County, NY. He moved to the area south of Buffalo, NY in the 1850's. Are we related?

Molly, I have a Hartman b 6 April 1832 in Schoharie, Schoharie County, New York son of Petrus who was the son of Hartman b bef 1755 in Germany(We believe in the Kessell, area of Germany). His mother died when he was young and he went to live with his grandmother and then went to Prattsville, New York to live with his sister. When he was 18 he went to California with friends and married and lived out his life in Stockton, California. Do you have any other names to refer to? I have found that all of the Littebrant's (May be spelled in different ways) are connected. I have much info on the Littebrant family and am willing to share.

Hi, perhaps this will help:
There is no Kessell Area but Kassel and Littlebrant could have been Kleinbrandt(translation for little is klein and perhaps the dt on the end became just t)??
It makes sense, dont you think so?

God bless
Rev. Field

Barb, here is what I know: My gg-grandfather was Alonzo Littlebrant. I found him in the 1855 NY State census when he is less than 1-year old. His father is listed as Hartman Littlebrant, age 24, born Albany county; mother Susan, age 20, born Cattaraugus county; sister Julia M, age 2 born Catt county; Alonzo, age 6/12 born Catt county. They resided in the town of Sheridan and had been there 2/12 months. The birth date for Hartman matches your Hartman and Albany county is close to Schoharie (could the borders have changed over time?). However, it does not match your story that Hartman moved to California when he was 18. The name is uncommon and I feel we are looking at the same family If you would like to contact me directly, please do so at mdengos@att.com.

I also have the same information as Barb does. I have Hartman the son of Peter (Petrus) b. 7/4/1832. Went to live with his sister when his mother died. When he turned 18 he and friends set sail from NYC to CA. Supposedly to prospect for gold. He was in Stockton, CA. It is quite possible that he returned home after a couple of years.

I am researching Catherine Littebrant who is buried in Stockton, CA. She married into the McCoy family, and had one son by the name of William (Ike). Could they be related
to Hartman? Any info you have is greatly appreciated ! !

Hi, Kathie,
I have a printout from the 1880 Federal Census CD for San Francisco. It lists Hartman Littlebrant, 48,, wife Catherine, 43, born in Ireland, with daughter Tennie age 17, "sister" William T. 15 (which is odd) and daughter Kitty W age 13. All the children were born in CA. I am not descended from this Hartman but from his cousin, Hartman. Barb has given shared lots of info on the Littlebrants with me and I would be happy to share with you. You may contact me directly at mdengos@att.com

Hello!
My Grandmother was Winifred McCoy Salmon. Her mother was Catherine Littebrant McCoy, the daughter of Hartman Littebrant.
They lived in Stockton, which is where my mother Waneta Salmon Standart was born. I am one of 7 children, most of whom still live in the Stockton/Modeso area. Please contact me for more information.
Thanks!
