My gr grandfather was the captain of the first ship brought into tampa bay for the mallory line in early 1900, maybe 1905 or 6. This was so significant that it was in my grandfathers obit in 1940. I would love to have the story from that day. Also he was a resident of tampa but may have died in georgia. One of my relatives has this as dec. 14, 1909. I cannot ask how this date was found. I believe there would have been a tampa obit as he was so important.He was married to Adele Damiani and his children were Edward D. Fitzgerald, John joseph Fitzgerald, Mary Leduc and adele smith. Any help would be greatly appreciated

There is an obit for a John W Fitzgerald, dated 16 Dec. 1909, page 12 in the Tampa Tribune. When I searched for other listings of John W Fitzgerald I did not recieve any hits. That obit might assist you in your search.

Made a library run to Tampa today and checked Tampa Tribune for some ancestors, had some extra time and was able to check for your request as well.

Have Obituaries and stories for both John and Adele. Was not able to print out copies today, so I just took photos of the microfilm screen shots. Will check them out when I get back home tonight and send them to you.

They were in fact prominent folks in Tampa at the time.

I really can't tell you how much I appreciate this. I was not able to get an obit to come up on either one. If it is not too much trouble could you also check on a james w. fitzgerald. He left jacksonville for tampa around 1892 I believe he was john's older brother. He was very prominent in jacksonville. He went to work for the Plant steamship Co. in Port tampa and I think he bought 500 acres in Lake county. I have access to the archives and the library of congress is there anything I can look up for you.
