In the census records for 1850 Summit, Crawford, PA, it appears that their children were b. in OH in about 1835, 1837 and 1839. Their son James from the 1850 and 1860 census appears to be about 85 and living with his son DeForest Truax in Summit, Crawford, PA in the 1920 census. If James Truax b. abt. 1835 OH d. in Summit, a newspaper obit. or death record might indicate where he was b. in OH. The 1840 census for Franklin, Knox Co., OH has several Truax listed: John Truax, Nathaniel Truax, and a G.F. or J.F. Truax. If James was b. Knox Co., OH, you might want to examine the latter Truax to see if he might have actually been your Peter F. Truax living near his relatives.

Also, I see at Find a Grave, that Louisa M. (Truax) Gehr, who was the dau. of Mary (DeForest) Truax in the 1850 Summit, Crawford, PA census, was b. 5 Aug. 1838 in Conneaut, Ashtabula Co., OH and d. 6 July 1916 in Linesville, Crawford, PA. Louisa is bur. in the Gehrton Cemetery in Linesville.

Also, if you google the Unplaced Truax page belonging to jsmith25@cogeco.ca, which relates to likely descendants of Philippe du Trieux, she indicates that your Peter F. Truax was living in Chautauqua, Chautauqua Co., NY in the 1830 Federal census. The NY counties frequently have a county historian who people can contact about early residents of the county.

I should also mention that on the Unbroken Truax listing for your Peter F. Truax, it mentions with the children an Anna Truax b. 1 Aug. 1822, m. 17 Nov. 1847 and an Edwin D. Truax b. 5 Feb. 1826, d. 3 Nov. 1843. Since both sons James and Edwin have the middle initial "D." and James named a son DeForest Truax, I'm wondering if Edwin and James might have been named after an Edwin DeForest and a James DeForest on the Mary (DeForest) Truax side of the family.

Crawford Co., PA and Ashtabula Co., OH have a common boundary. If Louisa M. (Truax) Gehr was b. in 1838 Conneaut, Ashtabula Co., OH, as indicated at Findagrave.com, it's interesting that Jacob D. (possibly Deremer) & Sophia Trax were living with their children in Conneaut, Ashtabula, OH in 1860. In 1850, this family was in Boston, Summit Co., OH. Jacob is listed on trees at Ancestry.com as a son of Isaac Pieterse Truax of Schenectady, NY and Jacob may have d. 13 Sept. 1877 in Unionville, Ashtabula, OH. Isaac Pieterse Truax is listed on trees as having had two wives named Anna. Note that your Peter F. Truax's eldest dau. was named Anna, according to the Unplaced Truax page. When the old naming pattern was followed, the eldest dau. was named after the father's mother. According to a tree at Ancestry.com, Jacob Truax was bapt. 12 Dec. 1802 in the First Reformed Church in Schenectady. If Peter F. Truax was also baptised in that church, the bapt. record would indicate who his parents were. Isaac Pieterse Truax is listed on trees with having a son Peter Isaac Truax. That Peter m. Mary Curley and had different children, but if there were two wives named Anna, perhaps there were two sons named Peter with different middle names.
