I am researching BOWEN, my main paternal line, mainly in Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison and Rappahannock countiesin VA.

25+0I believe - but am not certain - that this James BOWEN is the son of Dr. Peter Bowdle BOWEN & Sarah Hill FISHBACK BOWEN. If so, James' middle name is Elliot. I do not know the name of mary's previous spouse, but since her single daughters' surnames is SOWERS, she was prob. previously married to a SOWERS. If anyone has additiona info on her, I'd appreciate it. Maybe this will help someone researching this surname~

Mary Smith Kerfoot married on Dec 1854 Clarke Co. VA James Wm. Sowers, they had two daughters: Florence & Lucy J. Sowers. She married second James Bowen. She was the daughter of George Louthan Kerfoot & Lucy Jane Adams. Her first husband J.W. Sowers was the son of John W. & Mary Emily (Mitchell) Sowers. Her second husband James Bowen was the son of James & Harriet (Wheatley) Bowen.

These Bowen's household situated across the road from Rockland Cemetery.

In 1990 I compiled my notes on the Sowers family and a copy can be viewed on film through L.D.S.

That sounds very familiar to me now, so I must have run across that before. What is the source for James Bowen's (that married Mary SOWERS) being the son of James BOWEN and Harriet WHEATLEY?

James & Harriet (Wheatley) Bowen had: Walter (married Ann Maria Kerfoot), Harriet (married James Field), Andrew Jackson (married Jane Adams Kerfoot,buried at Rockland Cemetery), Ann E. (married James Field), James (married Mary Smith Kerfoot) & Mary M. Bowen (married James H. Jamison).

Said James Bowen married second to Amelia Tutt, they had Edwin Bowen (married Eliza Frances Johnston, my distant Johnston cousins)

Said James Bowen was the son of Thomas & Sally (Winterton) Bowen.

You will find Bowen records in all my Frederick, Warren & Clarke counties, VA.

I believe there were more than one Bowen family living in the same area.
