Greetings from White Bear Lake,Minnesota,my name is Brad. I do have a "Bartko" lineage that connects up to my family tree on my dad's fathers side, that stems from Vazec. Not much info is known beyond an Anna Bartko for extended families (cousins,aunts,etc.). Anna's parents are listed as Jan and Maria Bartko,Jan's father was an Ondrej, and Ondrej's parents are Ondrej and Zusana Bartko. The variation of Bartko,as "Brtko",would be interesting to find out and to add to the family tree for info at my end. The possibility does exist. Anna did have a brother by the name of Matthew (could have been spelled with a single "T" as well). I did have a cousin that had come up with the names going back some generations from Anna, unfortuneately,he has since passed away quite a few years ago. Brad Gabrick

Hi back from Windsor, Ontario, Canada. My name is Mary. Its funny that I would get a query from you re: BARTKO. I just found a 1930 US census showing a ANDY BARTKO who would be my grandfather ONDREJ (ANDY, ANDREW, ANDREJ) born in 1984 in Motova(lower central Slovakia) close to Zvolen. His fathers name is not legible on a US Social Security Application but his mother is listed as Anna Hvodlik. My grandfather was married to Anna Racko who never came to the US or Canada. My grandfather came to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada (1924)On to Montreal, Quebec, on the Detroit Michigan 1928, left US 1946 and never returned. He died in 1973 in Motova or Banska Bystrica. Your reference to Vazec is where my fathers family (CHOVAN) came from. I don't know if any of this corresponds with your info but like you said "anythings possible". Mary

It would be a real surprise if there was an actual connection,I would not doubt it. With the spelling of Brtko and Bartko, not too many people with that name around this neck of the woods, but they do exist. The last name of Chovan does not look familiar to me. I'm not even sure if there were Bartko's in my family tree that settled up in Canada, though would not put it passed one. That is still one part of the family tree that needs to be worked on. So far, with the mention of Vazec,as the saying goes,"What are the odds." Who knows. Brad Gabrick

Hello Maria. My name is Mary Jane Quenneville (Chovan) I am so, so very glad to hear from you. And to know that my Uncle Miroslav is still alive is wonderful. Is he well? How old is he now? I just happened to go on the Ancestry.com site. I haven't been on it for a while and to find a message from my very own relative is so wonderful. I am shaking right now because I am so excited. I am looking at a picture right now of your father and 3 small children and I am thinking that this is you and 2 brothers. It is dated 1945. Oh how I wish we were closer. I am in Canada. Please write back with your e-mail address so we can communicate. Please give MY Uncle Miroslav a big kiss and hug from me. Mary

Hello. I'm glad that you wrote. I am also very happy. I do not know English very well, so I hope you will understand what I am writing. My mail address is: hanusova.maria @ post.sk, we can write the mail me. I would also send you some pictures of my family. My parents are already old and they already have health problems, but are still vital and often mentioned. Still living in Žemberovce, in a house, that was built by his parents Zuzana and Jan. I have one more sister and two brothers. Their names are: Miroslav (1947), Ján (1951), Viera (1954) and I was the youngest (1965). I have three daughters, Zuzana (1988), Michaela (1990) and Paulínka (2001). My husband and I live in Prievidza, 150 km from my parents.
We thought you would never find, when your mom died contacts were discontinued. We also interested in information about your family. How old are you children? Where do you live and how old you are?
If I write some kind of mail, jabudem write more about my family and send the pictures of my family and your Uncle Miroslav.

I am waiting for your early reply
