In your query about Elisha Whitten and Sarah Greathouse, I do have the names of their children in a copy of part of a book entitled "Whitten and Allied Families" Second Edition by Virginia Wood Alexander and William C. Whitten, Jr. I would be happy to send you what I have if you are interested. I have Chapter 7 which has information about the Whitten's of Illinois. Many of them are from Montgomery Co., IL. The parents of Elisha are named as Elijah b. 13 Jan 1734 and d. during the Rev. and his wife was Charity Duckett b. 1734. m. in 1760 and the children were: Easton md. Wilma Johnson; Elijah died young; Elisha md. Sarah Greathouse; Josiah md. Sarah Rector; Austin md. Keziah Casey; Sarah md. Stephen Claypool; Charity md. John Duckett; Elizabeth md. Lemuel Mosely; Peggy md John Evans. There is other information about these families. The author of the book has questioned accuracy of the dates of some of the births and marriages which came from a Mrs. Weaver, but he says that the information can be helpful. I am related to the Whitten descendants through Elza Sanders who married first Ruth Whitten a daughter of Austin Whitten and Keziah Casey. After Ruth's death, he married Sarah Ann Sturgeon. My line is through Sarah Ann, but we would still be 1/2 cousins because of Elza Sanders.

In your query from Montgomery co. IL concerning Whittens/Casey's. Most of the information that I have is from a book "Whitten and Allied Families" Second Edition by Virginia Wood Alexander and William C. Whitten, Jr. There is some information in this about the Duckett's, and a Wilma Johnson. Since this is not my direct line, I have not entered it into my database, but I would be happy to share the book if you are interested. I don't remember if I sent a copy of it to Robert? I only have Chapter 7 of the book which covers the Whittens of Illinois, but also gives some origin of the families in South Carolina. Let me know what information you would like. I have been sick with an unknow virus for almost a week, and I don't know how much longer it will take to get over it. My husband has it also, so Christmas plans are on hold as well as other Holiday plans. I would guess it would be after the Holidays before I can get back to you. Ilene Jones

Hi Robert,

I have located the tombstone of Austin Whitten Sr. He is buried in Bost Hill Cemetery, Fillmore, Illinois. I also found the tombstone of his wife Keziah (Casey) Whitten there. Was Austin Sr. married twice? There is also a tombstone there with the name of Sophia Whitten and it says: Sophia wife of Austine Whitten, S. Could the S stand for Sr? I hope you can shed some light on this for me. You can e-mail me direct at lila.fugate@comcast.net.
Also do you live near Hillsboro, Illinois?

Thank you,

Lila Jean Fugate
