A good locator is or to locate a town with present name
www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/loctown.htm You know that you start the family tree with yourself and going backwards to the ancestor that came from the "old country". ( I know you know) :) (smile)
You need to establish a name of a town that your ancestor came from.
Take a look in Ellis Island at NOGRADIs and NOGRADYs.
The Hungarian phone site
www.matav.hu/english/index.html is listing NOGRADI and NOGRADY. Both spellings can also be found in Slovak Republic's phone book.

In 1990 census of names in Poland there was 1 NOGRADI. The LDS-Mormons have filmed the church records but you need the name of a town and religious orientation of your ancestor to order the records from which you can gather ancestral information.
