I am looking for the parents of John Depoyster/Depoister. He was born in Kent Co., Delaware in 1754. He married Elizabeth Lewis in about 1770 in Kent Co. In 1775, John entered the service of the United States as a volunteer under Captain Jonathon Caldwell in the First Delaware Regiment for twelve months.

Some family members think the DePoyster family is related to the DePeyster family of NY & NJ. So, any information on DePeysters in Delaware could be helpful.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

I found that some DePoisters show up for that earlier generation. This is good. You could try to make an educated guess on which one it is and look up a will for a guy that fits the generation to be the dad. If the will lists a son named John then you have possible evidence.

Ancestry has some records:

Thomas Lewis shows up as the dad of Elizabeth and if you don't have it yet, you could get his will.

So does the Delaware Public Archives

Michael, Thank you for your input. Are you a DePoyster or Lewis decendant? There are some DePoisters that show up in the early records. These DePoisters are part of the DePeyster family and I have thought for a long time that John was a descendant of the DePeysters of NY. One of my cousins found some records that have an Abraham DePoister buying property in Kent Co., Delaware at the right time. This Abraham abandoned his wife, Elizabeth, and her children. No will found. There were at least 3 Abraham DePeyster who could have been John's father. I am tracing those Abrahams now. I have Thomas Lewis' will and I am sure that Elizabeth Lewis was John's wife. The record you pointed out is new and it gives me another good clue.
