Father or Tribe of Rhoda POLLY b. 1801

Rhoda POLLY born Jun 18, 1801 in Kentucky
died Apr 19, 1876 in Illinois Married James C. Scobey(Scoby) Oct 2, 1826, Monroe County, Indiana. Am trying to find the name of her father. Also, have been told she can't be Cherokee because she was born in Kentucky. Oral family history indicates she was the daughter of a Chief. Which Indian nation could she belong to with her given history?
Any suggestions, leads, or directions to turn are appreciated.

David,

I'm searching for the parents of my Manerva POLLY.

Manerva POLLY b. bet. 1812-1817 TN d. aft. 1870 m. # 1 James GILBERT June 21, 1836, Polk Co, MO.

Manerva POLLY GILBERT m. # 2 Levi LEWIS Jan 31, 1841, Polk Co, MO after James' death.

At the POLLY Message Board is all the information and a list of sources that I have on my POLLY Family. Just because someone tells you that your ancestor is not Cherokee it doesn't mean that it's true, search for your own facts, take bits and pieces of what others offer. I too have been told that my Manerva POLLY is the daughter of a Cheif POLLY, but at this time I haven't found any Cheif POLLY on record, but still search for him, if he's real. Did you get a map of the "Trail of Tears" to see the migration pattern? this may assist you.

Good luck in your search, Sandy LEWIS H.

Don't know if you are still active. I am a descendant of Manerva. Have not had any luck finding out any more than her name. 1812 is the date I have. Her parents were both born in NC. Since she was born in TN, I am not sure of the migration. Parents may have left to TN before the Trail of Tears. We were told by family that knew her daughter Isabelle Blue, she was a full cherokee. My great aunt threw away the family bible when Minnie Harp her daughter died. Family was not happy with her.

There has never been a Cherokee Chief named POLLY.
The Trail of Tears took place between 1838 and 1839. It was the forced removal of Cherokee Citizens from their Nation in the southeast and is extremely well documented.

There's nothing to suggest that Minerva POLLY or her descendants were anything other than free white citizens of the United States.

James GILBERT + Manerva POLLY married June 12 1836 Polk Co MO.
(A copy of this record may be available.)

1840 Polk Co MO
Division 1
Pg 149
Manerva GILBERT
1 free white male under 5
2 free white females under 5
1 free white female 30-39

Manerva married James Gilbert who had been married before. They only had one child a girl Isabelle Blue. The other children in the household was probably from James first marriage. As the story goes, by Minnie her gdaughter, she was a full blooded Cherokee but would not talk about it. This information was passed down from Ibbi, Manerva daughter. Because she did not read or write, the person who recorded the marriage between James and Manerva spelled her name as Polly. This is where we come to an end. She was born in TN and she says her parents were both born in NC. She was married in MO. I will keep on trucking. I do not think she is a relative of a Chief named Polly. I have found family name with the spelling Pauley. Thanks for your help
