See/Yoakum family intergration

So I've learned some interesting things about my ancestors and it appears my great (x5 x6, etc) grandparents are the Yoakum family, integrated with the See family. I thought I was getting somewhere but it's confusing to me because there are a-lot of misguided facts out there, and so much integration and similar names. I do realize that there has been a-lot of research on this family due to the muddy creek massacre. One of my great (x4) grandmothers is Sarah Shoemaker, daughter of Elizabeth and John peter. Supposedly Elizabeth was one of the captives of the massacre but here's where the problem starts.

Other people have her as Elizabeth Yoakum, and that she is the daughter of Valentine Yoakum and Margaret See. However other documents and writings online say she is the daughter of Frederick Michael Sea and Catherine Margaret See (Vanderpool). I know that somehow I am related to all these people, but I'm just not putting it together somehow. I see that Mathia Yoakum married an Elinor See..maybe this is where the Yoakum/See connection happens. Hoping someone can shed some light.

If her parents are Frederick and Catherine (which I think is the case) then where does the Yoakum family come in. Supposedly there is a relation to us and Valentine, his father Mathias etc, but all of this is a bit jumbled to me right now. I also see where Valentine did have a daughter Elizabeth who would have been a Yoakum. Any help is very appreciated here in figuring out where my family tree should head past Sarah Shoemaker and Elizabeth (See or Yoakam). Also, any other marriages with these ancestors would be good to know as well since I read somewhere that possibly Catherine had several marriages but I am not sure. Also, I know that Elizabeth had a child by Cornstalk's son Peter I, while she was held captive (before she married and had my g grandmother Sarah). That daughter was White Wing "Big Nancy" and she married Tecumseh.

Hi,

I just came across your post and thought I would respond. I spent a good deal of time over the past couple years researching this Yoakum line for a book I wrote. My grandma was a Yoakum and our line is traced from Matthias Yoakum who did indeed marry Eleanor See. It took me quite a while to sort out all the connections and lines. As far as I can make out, this was his second marriage. His first wife, Maria Uhngefehr, died on the trip to America from Germany (they actually set sail from Rotterdam in the the Netherlands). He married Eleanor See and his son, Felty (Valentine was his given name) married Margaret See...who was either Eleanor's cousin or sister (Eleanor was much younger than Matthias).

As far as the Elizabeth that is listed in the documents about the captives taken from the Muddy Creek Massacre...both the Felty/Eleanor AND Michael/Catherine had a daughter named Elizabeth. Since both Eleanor and Catherine were taken captive, their daughters, the Elizabeths, are both listed on the captive documents that you have probably seen. It took me many night of going back over those lists to figure that one out! Catherine See, along with all her daughters, were "married" off to members of Cornstalk's family.

Hope some of this helps. If you're interested...my book "Rough Set of Characters" is available on Amazon. It does sort a lot of this out. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0615916112/sr=8-1/qid=13960...

I didn't write it for any grand audience...just a gift for my dad this past Christmas!

If you are interested in any more information I have, just let me know. I was really overwhelmed with how well documented our family is!!
