HORTON - CSAThomas Horton of the South Carolina Confederate Army is thought to have emigrated from South Carolina to Victoria, Australia after the Civil War, leaving through New York. He died in Melbourne, Victoria under the name of Thomas Love Horton. I do not know from what county he came. If anyone can fonfim this, or prove it untrue, I would like to hear from you. Any information on Thomas Horton's birth, life, family, military service or death would be greatly appreciated. Could you provide more qualifying information? There are several Thomas Hortons in SC of military age just before the war.

Members of the American Civil War Round Table of Australia, and especially the early members, from the 1970's, are fully aware of the facts relating to Thomas Horton. HE DID NOT MIGRATE TO AUSTRALIA. It was his son, the late Walter, who came to Australia, and who had been an early member of the said Round Table. Walter's claims about his father's service have never been confirmed, and may or may not be true.
It would seem that there are those who would make assumption without knowing the facts, and who would prefer to spread such assumptions all over cyberspace, instead of taking the trouble to research further. Many of these assumptions and fabrications seem to emanate from one particular source, and shows the utter lack of any research capabilities.
