desperately seeking information on connections between Steel/Steele family and the Leverich family. The Madison County Iowa 1960 census has Benjamin Steel/Steele's offspring spread to the Rolston and Shaver families. His wife Elizabeth died in 1858 and I think he(Benjamin) thought they would be better off with these families. His daughter Margaret is with rolstons and Sons James and charles are with the Shavers. Benjamin had two other daughters ,Barbara Ellen and Mary who later married Jefferson Shutt. Barbara Ellen married John Leverich. These girls were apparently old enough to fend for themselves. Anyone able to help me find Benjamin in 1860 or earlier. The Steel/Steele family was from Millersburg Ohio

I don't have any info for you, but my Grandmother Shaver married John Wesley Rolston, b. Nov. 5,1861 in Ontario, Canada. If you have more info I would be happy to pursue this further. The families may have been friends and that may help me to trace my Grandfather; I'm afraid I have no other info on him, but quite a lot on Esther "Minnie" Shaver. Regards.

Luckily I checked for an aug 2004 message in a reply since there has'nt been any new messages apparently since the top one on July 22. Little did I expect to see a reply to my own post. The Shaver family as well as the Rolstons settled in Iowa. These are the people I am interested in because they took in relatives from my ancestors. They were in madison county Iowa in 1860. The families in subject box were all apparently linked or lived near one another or were well known enough to take in each others kids. I have the 1860 census listing the Shaver family and the Rolston family on the same page.

i am a descendant of the Steel children mentioned in the 1860 census for Madison county. Benjamin Steel was their father but he seems to have dropped out of the picture in 1860. He reappears in 1870 census. There were children of his family placed in both the Rolston family and the Shaver family. I think the reason was the death of their mother Elizabeth in 1858. Would like to find where Benjamin went in 1860. All the names listed as subject intersect with my line including Long and Smith.
