Dear Friend:

My beloved Confederate ancestor, Private Francis Ellison Pugh, fought and died with the 38th. He enlisted in May 1861 at Atlanta and was buried Feb. 15, 1863, in the Confederate Cemetery in Fredericksburg. On top of his grave sits a stone of Georgia marble, quarried there and shipped up north for the fallen heroes of Georgia after Fredericksburg. The official record says he was in Co. B, but a margin note indicates that Co. B was designated as (old) Co. D and (new) Co.F, Wright's Legion, so I'm not sure what to make of that.
