Bamburgh SINTONs

I was looking at a family of Bamburgh SINTONs - anyone researching them?
A marriage cert that may be of interest to someone:
23 May 1843: John SINTON, coachman, s/o James SINTON, labourer, and Eleanor RIDDLE, house servant d/o Thomas RIDDLE, mason, both resident Waren, married at the Bamburgh Parish Church, Northumberland, both signed.
Witnessed by Robert TINDALE, Eleanor WAKE, William ?BALMER?, Ann ROGERS

I eventually convinced myself that this John remarried a Mary Ann FARROW in 1856

Not known to be my SINTONs, but always interested to find out, and eliminate them from my inquiries by linking them all up into their respective families.

Or get a representative of a new line into the SINTON Surname DNA Project

Hi Lorna,
I recall that we corresponded on this a few years back, so this possibly isn't news to you, but I believe that the John Sinton in question, born abt. 1813, is my great great great grandfather. It seems you know more about it than I have uncovered, as I did not know of the marriage to Eleanor Riddle, although that fits quite nicely.

It's interesting that Eleanor R. was a house servant, since Bamburgh Castle was a school for domestic servant girls at about this time, and in later census data, John & family seem to have lived & worked there as a "porter".

Almost all of this comes from census data, so again probably not news to you, but ... I think John had two daughters, Mary and Isabella. Isabella seems to have eventually had a son, George Sinton Jackson. Meanwhile, Mary had a daughter, my Great Grandmother, Eleanor Sinton. Eleanor had Stanley Sinton in about 1901 (my grandfather). Stanley came to Canada alone as a young boy - probably a "home" boy although we have never found a record confirming this.

I have once seen a birth certificate on-line that may or may not be *this* John's; it indicated John was born 1813/10/21, baptized in 1814, with parents John and Mary. The place is listed as All Saints, and the parish is Newcastle, John Knox (Presbyterian), Nbl.

I also found an indication of a death certificate on-line that may fit, which indicated John Sinton died in 1903.

Hi again "Jud186",
Yes, I remember our "conversation", and yes, this John is your Stanley's ancestor.
Given John's (b1813) marr. cert says his father is James, the 1813 baptism to John and Mary in Newcastle is much more likely to be the John son of John SINTON and Mary INGO, who went on to marry Mary BALMER.
They may or may not be related, but it was looking at your John's marriage cert to Eleanor RIDDELL that made me realise I was in danger of mingling two families into one.
I'm reasonably sure that the John son of John and Mary (INGO) SINTON died in 1854, which would leave the 1903 death as a possibility for your one. I see that I've not followed him beyond 1881 as yet (Rothbury).
Given there are only daughters surviving beyond infancy, I guess my hope of a male SINTON to represent this line in the SINTON DNA project is a bit forlorn, but there should be some from the INGO line around.

Regards,
Lorna

Hi again Jud,
Is it family information about Isabella and son George Sinton JACKSON?
I have your Isabella up to 1891 census when she was living in Rothbury with her niece, your Eleanor.
As father John isn't with her, (he was in 1881) I think he is more likely to be the John, aged 75, death registered Rothbury in 1888, Sep qtr than a 1903 John.
The 1903 John, aged 87, death registered Berwick, looks more like the widower of a Prudence someone, mother of an Isabella who is with them in 1891 and with her widowed father John in 1901 at Tweedmouth, Berwick, as are some JACKSON grandchildren.
I've not followed this Isabella back beyond 1891, but am reasonably certain that this is a different Isabella.
"Your" one was born 1852 Bamburgh, this one, with JACKSON connections, was born 1837, Ancroft.
What do you think?

Regards
Lorna
