Seltschan - Could this be Anton's birth place?

The name of the town where Vincent's brother Antonin Mohelnitzky lived in 1825 was Sedlicanech (Sedlcany).
The German spelling and Bohemian pronunciation for the town "Sedlcany" is "Seltschan" and would be pronounced, in a Bohemian dialect, as "Sel-tsch'n." A person hearing this dialect, may think the spelling would be "Sellgan" or "Zellgan."

From Wikipedia: Sedlčany (German: Seltschan) is a town in Central Bohemian Region, Czech Republic. It is located at 49°40′0″N, 14°25′0″E.

Debbie

Have you looked into Leo Baca's 9 volumes of Bohemians to America? There is also Germans to America.
Do find MOHELNICKY in city of Ostrava, Czech Republic.

No, I've not heard of the Leo Baca books. Where do I find them - in a library? Or is it online?

I just googled and found this link, telling more about Leo Baca: http://www.oxfordjctgenealogy.com/
I guess his books are only available at the LDS Library?

Are you saying that you found a Mohelnicky in the city of Ostrava? If so, from which source - Leo Baca's books, or Germans to America? And was there more information?

Thanks for the info,
Debbie

Leo Baca's 9 volumes should be in a larger library as well.

The MOHELNICKY in Ostrava is from the phone book.
http://phone.quick.cz Czech only.

In the Czech phone book, I entered:

Jméno: Mohelnicky
Obec: Ostrava
Tel. obvod: Moravskoslezsky

I must be doing something wrong, I didn't find anything.

Thanks to Zlatica for helping me use the online Czech phone book!

Mohelnicky needs to go in the "Příjmení" field.
Unclick the "Používám diakritiku" box.
Search in all regions listed in the drop down box.

5 Mohelnicky names were found.

As an update to my earlier post, I found someone who could do a lookup for Mohelnitzky/Mohelnicky/Mahanesky/Mohanesky - but nothing was found in all 9 volumes.
