Gravenors in South Wales late 1800s/early 1900s
I have just received a birth certificate for my g-grandmother indicating that my g-g-grandmother was Elizabeth GRAVENOR. From 1881/1891 census she was born around 1848 in Nantyglo, Monmouthshire.
She married James YEM(M) (probably in 1867) and they lived in
I don't know her parents yet (I will order the marriage certificate) but the only Elizabth I can find on earlier census is in 1851 as a visitor without her parents.

Re: Gravenors in South Wales late 1800s/early 1900s
Sorry - mishit a key and the message was posted before I'd finished!
After marriage Elizabeth lived in Queen Street, Nantyglo.
Nantyglo isn't far from Six Bells in Abertillery which was mentioned on the board a few years ago.
If anyone thinks they know Elizabeth's family I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks.

Hi Janet, I am a Gravenor descended from Evan Gravenor and Sarah Ann Moses who had their family in Bedwellty/Argoed around the turn of the century. Evan was born in Newtown Montgomery (son of Evan Gravenor and Jane Richards). Do you think there could be a link between our lines?

Re: Gravenors in South Wales late 1800s/early 1900s
My grandfather was called Evan Gravenor and lived in the Bedwellty/Argoed area in the early 1900's. His eldest daughter was called Elizabeth, who was known for her nursing work in the area. I think there was 10 children all together. There was my mother Mary Gravenor, also a Archibald, and the youngest was Edith I think. Are we related?

Re: Gravenors in South Wales late 1800s/early 1900s
It does sound like it! The children I have for Evan are: Elizabeth Ann 1894 Evan Thomas 1894 Percy 1898 Ada May 1900 Albert Edward 1902 Irene Maud 1904 Archibald 1906 Lewis 1908 Mary 1909 Margaret 1911. I can see an Edith in the BMD records for Bedwellty 1912 but her mother was 'Hill' not Moses so this must be a different family. Please PM me if you'd like to compare notes!
