The baptismal record does not show his parents name. Any idea or speculation why this would be?

This was approx 8 yrs after emancipation, so the parents might not have been married hence no names...odd that at least the mother's name was not mentioned.

Perhaps the child was given up or the mother died. It was also common for relatives to act on behalf of parents in performing birth registrations.

You could try and find a marriage record for James C Lyon that might list the parents name(s).

I sent for his baptismal cert and his sons... I should have sent for the marriage... It has taken a long time already from St Catherines.... Maybe because of Sandy.
