I am looking for information on Joseph Hedges who died in 1852/53 Warrick Co Indiana. Father to Lusina Hedges , Briscoe Hedges, Joseph Solomon Hedges,Dossie and Nancy . 1850 census lists birthplace as KY. Trying to determine where in Kentucky I believe it to be Ohio Township, possibly son of Peter or Josiah. Any info on him or those 2 lines is greatly appreciated.

My great grandfather's name was Joseph Hedges from Warrick County. I have an original sheepskin deed which was signed by Martin Van Buren which shows property he purchased in Warrick County in 1838. I also have his billfold which was handmade with interesting people and dates listed. I wonder if my great grandfathers father was a Joseph also because I believe he did not die until the late 1800's as my grandmother was born in 1885 and her name was Sarah Hedges. She had several sisters, Mattie, Sena and a brother Gurley Hedges who died in 1936. Joseph Hedges married Mary Andrews who was born in Vanderburgh County on Oct. 16, 1852. She died in 1937 and is buried in Newburgh, Warrick County at Rose Hill cemetary. It sounds like the Joseph Hedges you are looking for is older than my gggfather, although I do know that he may have been as much as 30 or more years older that Mary Andrews Hedges. Please let me know if I should look into this anymore. Good Luck. Dennis Haire , Evansville, Indiana

I am looking for information on a descendant named Briscoe Hedges. In the 1850 Census he lived in Jefferson County KY. He also appears in the 1860 & 1900 Census living in Daviess County Kentucky. I believe he was born on September 19, 1843 and died on December 09, 1908. He was married to Lucy A. Loyd. Does this sound like your Briscoe

I seen your post and thought I'd let you know that Brisco Hedges is buried at Greenbrier Baptist Church Cem. in Daviess co, Ky. The dates on his stone has b. 9-9-1843 and d. 12-9-1908, wife Lucy A. no last name given. I took pictures of all the Hedges stones but haven't gotten them developed yet. My brother also has a copy of a newspaper article that mentions Briscoe in it, about being in the war. I'm currently waiting for him to bring me the article!!If I can be of any help..just email me at blabai2@aol.com

I'm fascinated by your story about this deed. My 3g grandfather, Martin V. Miller, was from Warrick Co IN. His father, Horatio Nelson Miller, was closely associated with the Hedges family -- even got arrested for "riot" with a couple of them! I find their names near one another in the land records also. Both the Millers and the Hedges intermarried with the Hudson and Hinman families. I had always assumed that Martin was named after Martin Van Buren, but have no proof and little record of the initial V. I guess I'll have to go back and study up on Martin Van Buren.

If you can share any further information with me about your branch of the Hedges family, I would be grateful. My aunt and I just returned from Warrick Co where we went to Millersburg, where the Millers settled. Because Miller was a common name, and because at least one other group of Millers was associated with both the Ohio/Butler/Daviess Co KY area and with Warrick and PIke Co, IN, it has been rather difficult to sort through all the info. However, I now think that there may be some links between the Ashby and Hedges family and the Millers that may predate their coming to Ohio Co KY.

I would love to hear from you!
