William HORRIDGE, son of William HORRIDGE and Jane WELCH, born 15 May 1866 in Campbells Creek, VIC AUST marred Margaret WAITING in 1898 in Victoria.

Margaret was the daughter of John WAITING and Margaret COSTELLO. I know little else of her early history, but if you like, I can go into VIC BDM records and find out for you?

William and Margaret had four children -

Elizabeth May b.1901 Cohuna VIC AUST (where I grew up) and died 1917 in Kerang VIC AUST.

Margaret Jane b.1899 Kerang VIC AUST, married a BATEMAN and died in 1982 Cohuna VIC AUST.

Eileen Mary b.1903 Cohuna, maried Hedley Edyrean SAMPSON.

William John b.1904, died (train suicide) 26 May 1947 in Cobram VIC AUST.

These families still live up in that area.

Margaret HORRIDGE (nee WAITING) died in 1959 in Preston (Melbourne) Victoria, William died 26 March 1947 in Cohuna (gunshot suicide).

William was one of nine children, his brother Henry was my 2nd great grandfather. The eldest son John was born in England, the rest in Victoria Australia after they came out in 1852 from Black Rod in Lancashire.

Eileen Mary HORRIDGE b.1903 (to William HORRIDGE & Margaret WAITING) married Hedley Edyvean SAMPSON in 1930.

Hedley was the son of Richard Edyvean SAMPSON (of Henry SAMPSON and Nanny EDYVEAN) and Harriet Maud Mary BETTS (of Henry Alfred BETTS & Sarah Jane CAMPTON). They had six other children:
Richard Leslie (m. Violet Hazel BLOOR)
Hilda Maud (m. John BUCKIE)
Nellie Jane (m. John CHAMBERLAIN)
Henry (m. Edith COX)
William Ernest (m. Florence CALF)
Freda Mabel (m. Edward ERVIN)

Hopefully that gives you a time frame but I cant say for certain without more detail whether this is the same bunch, although SAMPSON isn't exactly a common name and Cohuna not a huge district, so I would be surprised if there weren't some link in there somewhere.

talked to you a few months ago as to whether william & alfreda sampson were in your tree. I have been to the Eaglehawk cemetery and our Sampsons are buried there. So must be some connection. Still working on it. Have you found the link?

This is a bit of a long shot.I am researching my wifes family.Her grandmother was a Horridge from Radcliffe in Lancashire.Tracing back on UK censuses and perusing other threads I think a couple of grandma Horridges great uncles(William and John) went to Australia.Their Parents were John and Elizabeth Horridge.Grandma Horridges family were involved in calico printing in Radcliffe. The company was Cornal and Horridge at Bolholt Mill.
Any tie ins with this thread(Loooooooong shots sometimes pay off!!)
