Looking for descendants of Alexander Martin who settled in Danville or Shipton in the 1850's. The Martin family came from Isle of Lewis, Scotland.

Hello,
I will check for Alexander Martin in Shipton in the 1851 census of Shipton.
Do you have any information on name of his wife and/or children? That way it might be easier for me to be certain that I have the correct family.

Hello again,
I did not find any Alexander Martin listed in Shipton Township in the 1851 census.
I did the following listed in Shipton Twp. in the 1861 census:
Alexander Martin, age 53, born, Scotland, farmer
Margaret age 53, born Scotland (wife)
Murdock age 23, born Scotland, single

I also found this:
Sherbrooke Daily Record, Vital Statistics for the period Jan. 1, 1902 to Dec. 31, 1906, Compiled by Elane Wilson and Terry Skeats, North Hatley Historical Society, 1999
Pg. 373, #6014- "Marriage, 18 Jan 1906 (date in paper)
At the home of Mr & Mrs Ernest P. Vaka, Attleboro, MA, Jan 15, Mr Alexander Martin, formerly of Scotch Hill, Shipton., married to Miss Frances Louisa Watson of Lower Sterviacke, N[ova] S[cotia], by Elder A.E. Place"

The above looked promising to tie into your Martin family.
Micki M.

Thank you. The Alexander, Margaret and Murdoch are ancestors. Unfortunately I had to place my Ancestry membership "on hold" starting March 1.

I know the people above (and others) are buried in the Danville (Quebec) Protestant Cemetery. Someday I hope to pursue my ancestry more in depth.

Hello,
If you will send me your email address it will be easier for me to contact you. I have Ancestry.com at the library and can obtain the Quebec census records on it. I also have the complete listing for the Danville Protestant Cemetery if you will send me the names that you are interested in.
Was the marriage record in MA in 1906 from your family line?

My email is rcmartin52@msn.com - I have the list of names from the Danville Cemetery. Somewhere along the line someone posted them online.

The marriage in Massachusetts may also be family but I do not know. It would seem evident that Alexander would have been named for the previous Alexander Martin. The reference to Scotch Hill in Shipton has me convinced that he is from the same family.
