My ancestor, Jean Baptiste De Vadder, came to Nova Scotia around 1818. He states that he was born in 1786 in Antwerp, Brabant, Belgium. Looking for proof of his departure from Belgium and any other family connections.

Hi, Gerard,

I would love to hear more about the DeVadders in Tremelo. I believe that my ancestor would have lived in that area because he indicated that he was from Brabant on his marriage license here in Nova Scotia. My ancestor is Jean Baptiste DeVadder/DeAdder (in Nova Scotia, the V has been dropped only because most of the individuals doing the census work didn't pick up on the Flemish/Dutch spelling). He is supposed to have been born about 1797 and his parents are Francis and Catherine. Any help would be fantastic.

Cheers,
Tracey

I also have Jean Baptiste DeVadder in the family tree I'm working on. Any information you could provide about this family would be appreciated.

Antwerp in Brabant

The Duchy of Brabant (a country, a nation) existed till the year 1795. A 35 years later, it was devided into a Belgian part (the provinces of Brabant and Antwerp) and a Dutch part (the province of Noord-Brabant).
Consequently, Antwerp in Brabant, it was possible, till 1795.
