Dear Holly,
I am sorry I don't have information about
William or Frederick Schaer. I have Scharers
dating back to 1500, but they are from Zurich
county, mainly Wadenswil.
Good luck to you in your search.

Holly, this is a long time after your posting, but just want to share some info with you.
My dear paternal grandmother's maiden name was Schaer, and she immigrated from Switzerland in 1921. She was from the canton (state) of Aargau, which borders the canton of Bern. Because her parents died when she was very young and she was separated from her older siblings, I have also tried to find her family there, so far, without much luck. She was raised by her mother's brother, whose last name was Kunz.
I have been to Switzerland twice in recent years, and unfortunately, the name "Schaer" is about as common in the Bern and Oberaargau regions as "Jones" is here, so you may be looking for a needle in a haystack. Maybe by now, you have found what you were looking for. :-)

My great-grandfather Carl/Karl S. Treichler came over from Switzerland in 1883.He married an Anna Schear or Scharer in Dodge City Kansas in 1890. Family history claims he met her on the boat coming over from Europe. Do you have any history of Anna.

Hmm, Our Schaer branch has a lost step sister referenced in old letters who was left behind in Switzerland when Andrew Schaer came to America around 1881. She was just a few years old when he left. What was you great grand mothers first name? Was it Erma or Emma?

Hi Holly,
I think I am a relative from Ravenna, Ohio. Are your parents the one's who used to run the White Rooster? My dad was the youngest of Frederick and Bertha Schaer..both buried in Pittsburg area. Frederick was born in I think 1865 and died in 1908 and Bertha was born in 1864 or 1863 and died in 1937. His brothers were William, Frank,Frederick Jr.(died young), sisters Frieda, Elizbeth and Clara. Not sure if there was another brother.
My mon was about 21 years younger than my dad, and my dad's mother had him when she was about 43 or 44. I have an old picture from about 1958 from a Schaer family reunion out at Muzzy Lake.
Your brother Bob (if you are the right Holly) played the drums in highschool. He is a few years younger than me.
I do not know of any MS in our families. I can't recall Bertha Schaer's maiden name...Maybe Henzie? or Heinzi...She and Frederick met in the U.S.
I have not been on this site before.
Have to leave in a hurry. You can "friend" me on facebook. I graduated from Ravenna in 1969.
