Mrs. Susan Moore Dies in Tennessee Local relatives have been notified of the death at 6:10 a.m. today of Mrs. Susan Dawson Moore, 73 year old native of the Roaring Springs community of Trigg County, who passed away unexpectedly at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bates Brown, in Memphis. The funeral is scheduled for 4 p.m. tomorrow at National Funeral Home, Memphis. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery, where she will be placed beside the body of her husband, Carl Moore, who died 13 years ago. Mrs. Moore was the daughter of the late Almont and Bettie Wilson Dawson, and she was born and brought up at Roaring Springs. Her husband was a Hopkinsville native, and following their marriage, they moved about 50 years ago to Memphis to reside. She was active in the work of the Linden Avenue Christian Church, Memphis, where she held her membership. In addition to Mrs. Brown, she is survived by one son, Britt B. Moore, Winston-Salem, N.C.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews in Christian and Trigg Counties.

ETHEL MOORE BROWN, 100, of Memphis, pianist, organist, choir director, composer and teacher, died Friday at Wesley Highland Manor. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lindenwood Christian Church with burial in Memorial Park. Memorial Park Funeral Home has charge. She was a charter member of the Maternal League, dean of Tennessee chapter of American Guild of Organists, board member of Memphis Open Air Theater and Memphis Symphony League, former president of Town and Country Garden Club, charter member and president of Camerata Club, president of Renaissance Music Circle, and member of Beethoven Club, Bohlmann Pianist Club, Brooks Museum League, Research Club and Commodore Perry chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Brown, the widow of Richard Bates Brown, leaves three daughters, Betty Canon McArthur of Montreat, N.C., and Grace Mallery Brown and Joy Brown Wiener, both of Memphis; a son, Richard Bates Brown Jr. of Memphis, 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Lindenwood Christian Church Music Fund, King's Daughters & Sons Home or Memphis Union Mission.
(Ethel Rosalie Moore Brown (7/7/1903-12/5/2003) was the daughter of Carl Clancy and Susan Dawson Moore. Carl Clancy Moore was the son of Rev. T. D. Moore who preached at Roaring Springs Christian Church in the late 1800's. Susan Dawson Moore was the daughter of Almont and Bettie Wilson Dawson of Roaring Springs. Ethel was the organist/choir director at Lindenwood Christian Church in Memphis for years.)

MOORE, 73 Church Worker Dies After Three-Year Illness Services for Mrs. Susan Dawson Moore of 3959 Poplar will be held at 4 this afternoon at National Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park. Mrs. Moore, who had been in ill health three years, died at 6:10 yesterday morning, at the Poplar address where she lived with her daughter, Mrs. Bates Brown. She was 73. Born near Hopkinsville, Ky, Mrs. Moore had lived in Memphis since 1902. She was the widow of Carl Moore, insurance man who died in 1940. Mrs. Moore, who was active for many years in social and music circles, was a member of Linden Avenue Christian Church and formerly sang in the choir there. She was a member of the Beethoven Club, Nineteenth Century Club and Evergreen Improvement Club. She also leaves a son, Britt B. Moore of Winston-Salem, NC.

Memphis Press Scimitar Mrs. Carl Moore: Fine Musician In Poor Health Three Years Mrs. Carl Moore, who was long active in music, social and church circles, mother of Mrs. Bates Brown, with whom she lived at 3959 Poplar, died at the residence at 6:10 a.m. today. Mrs. Moore had been in poor health the past three years. She was 72. The former Susan Dawson, she was born in Trigg County, Ky., near Hopkinsville and came to Memphis after her marriage in 1901. Her husband, an insurance man, died in 1940, and she had made her home with her daughter and son-in-law since about 1943. She also leaves her son, Britt B. Moore of Winston Salem, NC. An active member of Linden Avenue Christian Church until her health failed, she formerly sang in the choir there. In addition to a lovely voice, she was a talented pianist and at one time taught piano. The Brown family credits much of its interest in music to her influence. She was long active in the Nineteenth Century Club and in Evergreen Improvement Club and enjoyed social gatherings and visits with her many friends. She was particularly fond of her six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and shared in and contributed to the congenial homelife of the Brown family. She was the last of four brothers and sisters. Services at 4 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. Dr. H. T. Wood officiating. Burial in Memorial Park. National Funeral Home in charge.
