Van Dyke Mill soon after Peter
VanDyke came into the area in 1785. Researches have placed an appx. date of 1790.....at the confluence of
Guist and Brashers....Williams
Jewell was millwright. "VanDyke,
Van Buskirk, and
Jewell" was carved into one the lower beams.
...the two brothers quarreled,
Elijah and Jimmy...jimmy built another mill downstream...many owners during its 170 years of operation. Charles
Stout & sons also owned it. It was sold in 1960 to
Wills Brothers. This information is all in the above mentioned book by Mary Frances Brown. If you wish a copy, she only has a few left.
