Can anyone tell me who the owners of the VAN DYKE MILL in Taylorsville, Spencer Co., was? This would have been before 1820. I had been told that a John Buskirk was a joint owner, anyone know who the other owner was? I have many family connections in Spencer Co., KY. Thanks for any information.

History of Spencer Co. states: Rivals had the Van Dyke Mill soon after Peter VanDyke came into the area in 1785. Researches have placed an appx. date of 1790.....at the confluence of Guist and Brashers....Williams Jewell was millwright. "VanDyke, Van Buskirk, and Jewell" was carved into one the lower beams.
...the two brothers quarreled, Elijah and Jimmy...jimmy built another mill downstream...many owners during its 170 years of operation. Charles Stout & sons also owned it. It was sold in 1960 to Wills Brothers. This information is all in the above mentioned book by Mary Frances Brown. If you wish a copy, she only has a few left.

Virginia I am decended from Granville C Brown b 1810, KY., Died in IN, 1859. Married Laura A. Maddox. I think they may have been connected to the Foreman Family. I found where Granville C Brown was connected to the Taylorsville Baptist church by experience. I do have a copy of Frances Brown book of Spencer Co., KY. I do not want to part with it but would do a lookup for you.
