I found a relative named Virginia on the census records. On her marriage license and a deed she gave her name as Jincey. I don't claim this as proof, but it is a possibility.

Hello Everyone,
Can someone assist me with the meaning of the name Gincy or Jincy?? I have also seen it spelled Jency.
I have seen several persons by this name or have it as a middle name, does anyone know the meaning? Does it come from the Native Americans?
Any help is appreciated., Deb

Hi. Jincey/Gentsy is Choctaw. My dad has a 1st cousin named Gentsy and the name has been passed down for several generations. My husband also had a gg grandmother named Jincey. we are choctaw and Cherokee. It is was also used as a nickname for Jane in some cases and as a nickname for Jencia.

Re: Re: Meaning of Name: Jincy???
My grandmother's name was Jincey and I always wondered where it came from. An indian version is definitely a possiblilty as I recently found out that Jincey's great grandmother was Jincy who was the daughter of Sarah Durant, herself part Creek Indian who actually sat in on Creek counsels to help her brother who was chief at the time. So I am now looking into a Creek form of that name as a possibility.
