William Stevens was the father of Joseph Stevens who married Miss Steen of Steen's Creek. They came to Texas in the 1850's.
Wonder if there were any other Stevens' left in Rankin County. Possibly an Elisha Stevens was part of this family too. Any help on this family will be deeply appreciated. Thanking you in advance.

Looking for ancestors for my Great Grandmother, Loretta Jane Stevens, b.7-13-1872, d.1-27-1913. The info I have is that she was born in Celine or Saline, Tennessee. She married my Great Grandfather James Garrett Steen from Tompkinsville, Kentucky. First child Edley Paul Steen was born in Tompkinsville then my Grandfather John Webb Steen was born in Krum, TX. James Garrett and Loretta Jane are buried in Jackson Cemetery in Krum. Loretta Jane had sisters named Bessie, Effie, Roxie, Maggie and Mary and brothers named Alexander and Sidney Stanton Stevens. Sidney is living with Loretta Jane and James Garrett Steen on 1900 Wise County, Texas census. Does any of this sound familiar to you.

Hi Janice,

It's been awhile since I've researched the STEENs but from
what I see in your reply, it appears that your line is not
connected to the line I researched. They may be connected
but not in anyway that I see.

I researched the William STEEN of SC to Mississippi then to
Dewitt County Texas.. He and his family spent a few
years in Rankin County, Ms before going to Texas in 1846.

good luck
jerry

I am trying also to clarify the Steen/Stevens of Texas. I will quote from the Historic Marker in DeWitt Co., TX.
Joseph (1810-1861) and Sarah Ann Steen(1820-1860)arrived in this area from Rankin Co., MS and bought land from members of Dewitt's colony and began to farm and raise cattle near this site. The 1851 Gravew of their infant son Joseph Enoch Stevens has the oldest marker in this family burial ground. The infant's grandfather Elisha Stevens (1776-1851) was laid to rest nearby a few months later....etc.

Any Connection?

Nancy,

Thanks for your message. Since we last corresponded I visited the graves of my Great Grandparents, James Garrett Steen and Loretta Jane Stephens. I discovered that I had been spelling Stephens incorrectly. Next to Loretta and James Steen is one of her brothers, Sidney Stanton Stephens. I had the named misspelled, so my family name is spelled with a ph instead of a v.

I'm researching the Stephens line. My ancestors married into the Steens and the Stevens families. I 'm from the Eli T.(b.1792) and Susanna Stephens family through their son Barnabus T. (b.1818) and his son William Eli Stepehns. Eli's sister Mary (b. 1790) married Eisha Stevens Sr. then Elisha Jr. (b. 1804) married Frances E.Stephens daughter of Eli Thomas and Susanna Stephens. Alexander Q. Stephens (b. 1820)married Mary Agnes Steen (b.1822)daughter of William Steen II & Mary Enochs Steen. John Henry Stephens (son of Eli & Susanna) married Narcissa Steen. I think I have it all straight. The Stephens and Stevens tried to keep their names straight in Gonzales, Texas. Sometimes when they conducted business they got spelled differently by someone writing down what they "heard" but for the most part they were careful. The Steens, Stevens, and Stephens sure are related. Then there is the Shuler family that married into the Stephens and were later marrying aunts, etc. It is scary to think about how close the relations were. I have most documented. If you have info to share let me know. You can email me at mrsc1946@earthlink.net Thanks, Pat Corn
